|
|
I have been having issues with oil leaks on my engine. I recently rebuilt it down to the pistons and used polyurethane sealant instead of the silicone stuff that was on it before. Oil is still slowly dripping from below the oil pump. Now that I have gotten around to getting a puller, I realize that there is no way the puller will work with this oil pump. It is an o-ring pump that is about 40 years old and I couldn't find any pictures of any oil pumps like it. The cover says Bugpack.
I want to know how I can remove it properly, without taking the engine apart, just so I can replace both of the seals on the pump and not leave oil on the ground wherever I park it.

Puller should go into the two oil holes same as any other ACVW pump. Loosen the nut above and the nut & bolt below to make it easier. _________________ DDC racing |

If the pump is plugged for full flow the puller will not work. The plug is in the way. _________________ You Can't Quit Poverty |

Even if its plugged for full flow, you can still use the pump puller. It takes a little technique but can still get done. _________________ 2276 IDA's 86C 11-1 DD

where is the pin for the lower gear?!?!?! if that thing slipped out it may be time to replace that pump... I currently don't know of any pumps that had a removable gear pin.. someone correct me if I'm wrong _________________ If you have any questions about Forged ICON 4032 VW pistons just shoot me a line. |

| I'm guessing that the pin is in the gear and that it has a locating hole in both the pump housing and the cover. Seems like things could get misaligned easily and cause binding but maybe the pump construction/design would prevent that from happening? |

The pin is removable. I am mostly concerned with the puller not fitting. Usually there is the space for the two gears and then a sort of chevron shaped hole in the middle into which the puller goes. Then you just turn the puller and it is locked in. This one has no chevron, so the puller has no way to get into the two holes on the sides of the pump. This is probably quite confusing and I can draw a picture if need be.
The leak may well be at the pulley. |

| That would be my guess, it's at the pulley. Unless it has grooves like stock, which most aftermarket pulleys don't, it will leak. |

Too hard to tell from the picture. It's most likely dripping from between the pump housing and the case. The pump puller should work fine, when you plug oil pumps, you screw in the plug from the outside of the housing(at least I do) _________________ Please "LIKE" us on facebook to see what we are working on.

Puller?? naw
clamp on two 5" vice grips and pull. If it burrs up the edges no biggie..... if it didn't need to be sanded flat then it probably would not be leaking either. |
