That is a huge question. Depends if you mean stock VW color schemes for a particular year, or peoples' own paint jobs.
I mean, for gray, I do like the 62-64 VW color Anthracite Gray, but it was never a popular color and it's pretty uncommon to see that color these days.
I'll always be partial to many of the colors that VW used in the early 60s - I think the tints they used were quite unusual. (except for Turquoise, never liked that one very much) But Pearl White (my 62), Anthracite Gray, Ruby Red, Gulf Blue, all are faves of mine.

X2, but for me, mid-oval era Ultramaroon - it's rare and unusual in its appearance. Early cars thru 58/9 look great in black, Others - splits - medium & chestnut brown, and standards do look nice in pearl grey & dark blue. Ovals, I always though metallics were too garish, but diamond green & polar silver have grown on me & I like my prairie beige (nice w/ red interior). Early squares black. light bronze, diamond & shetland grey. Once you get past this period most of the colors are just minor variations on earlier colors. On post 68 cars white & red, and really late a metallic green that's a variation on diamond green. To me, bugs of any year look good in any color, some just look a little better. Those are some of my favs. |

My first car was a Sea Blue 66 Bug. I still love that color. Stolen from the gallery:
It looked just like that. I considered painting my crappy Zwitter this color but it just would not look right. |

Why.... Pearl White of course! It can be all shades of colors depending on the light it is under.

Really there is not a stock VW colour that I don't like. I guess I am partial to the earlier colours as in pre 68. _________________ 1960 beetle
