Question before I booger anything up.

The metal strap on the end here, where I am pointing to in the attached picture, is this strap in some way adhered to the clean air muffler so it stays in place or in the case of mine, just held on firmly from age and rust?

As I been working on my bus, this muffler literally just pulled off. That strap was doing nothing. So I plan on removing the strap, if it supposed to come off, cleaning it up, and trying to reconnect and bolt the whole unit back on my bus.

Don't want to prey the strap off if it was designed to stay in placed and only the bolt side spreads a bit when lose.

I can't tell so figured I would ask.

Oh, and were these mufflers green? Mine appears to have flaking off green paint.

Thanks
TJ

The clamp on the heater muffler (used for both stale air and fresh air systems) is spot welded to the heater muffler.

So I can enjoy my bus this summer, a temporary fix of my beat-up muffler heater pipe where the insulation was coming off.

In hindsight, not sure how hot these mufflers get but I used some duct tape (very redneck I know) to reform some area for the insulation to slide under the tabs on the pipes and for the missing pipe clamps (there were non so I purchased some generic ones for one at my local hardware store) could bite onto to tighten it all down. Hoping the little bit of duct tape does not heat up too much and cause any issue. Guessing no but I thought of that afterward.

I need to save some $$ to but some new insulation and heater pipe but for now, at least this seals things up so not a nice big hole for mice to get in. Hoping this does the job for now.

Got more done today and thing I shall enjoy a joyride tomorrow.

Next time a new vacuum distributor will be installed. Wink

Axle boot seam looks to be set too high. If so, will tear up the boot all too soon. Should be more close to 3 or 9 O'clock position when viewed from the wheel end of the axle.
