When searching for words in the forums, it doesn't always get me the results I'm looking for. So sometimes I'll search the photo archives to get a visual of the part I'm working with. Then I find myself wishing I could see all of the topics that photo is used in so that I can see how others are describing what they did with it or how it's supposed to work. |

Unfortunately this is not something that is indexed or tracked.
It's possible you could do a Google search of the site for the image # and something might come up but I have tried this in the past and was not successful.
Example, I know for a fact I posted image # 1164316 in the Forums.
I just tried searching on both 1164316 and 1164316.jpg and it didn't work either - it just came up with the Gallery entry and a link to classified ad # 1164316 _________________ How to Post Photos

I think it would benefit TS if the users were given a tool to connect pics/topics, especially since the descriptions posted in the gallery off and on is either misleading, missing or placed in the wrong category. |

I agree this would be nice.
I will think about how this is possible.
There are A LOT of photos in the gallery there are never used in the Forums.
I agree there is an ongoing problem with people using bad description in the Gallery.
Unfortunately I cannot control this.
If you find photos that are in the wrong category, please hit "Report" on the photo(s) and I will fix them. _________________ How to Post Photos

I thought about it and figured out a quick and dirty way to make this work.
There is now a link under each Gallery image in the listings to allow you to perform a search.
Example:
Warning: This search may be slow!
In my testing I saw searches take up to 30 seconds, although most of the searches I did took 3-4.
Also, the current search could be resource-intensive, depending on the particular search, so if it affects the site in a negative manner, I may have to remove it while I find another method. _________________ How to Post Photos

Very cool feature Everett! Have wondered about this in the past, but hadn't noticed the addition until now... Thanks! _________________ -Adam

Yeah, that is cool! Usually, for images I put up for Forum use, I put in a note "for the Forums" in the description...
I had thought more than once that it would be nice to have a discussion pane as part of the Gallery - a thread below the image, but I think this is just as good.
edit:
I just got a "Server Overload" warning when I went to make a normal Forum search. I've never seen that before. I wonder if this is what Everett was worried about when he said this:

Update:
This was affecting the load on the site and was getting worse recently as it is very popular based on feedback from members.
I rewrote the way it works so it is now super fast*
If you encounter any errors or issues, for instance, you know you used a particular photo in the Forums but nothing is found when you search, let me know.
* Technobabble for those interested:
The site now stores every post where a member posted a particular gallery photo directly in the database, instead of doing a wildcard search. _________________ How to Post Photos
