|
|
Well I got a call today from the new owner of this building, there were some long forgotten VW parts/projects needing a new home. The building is getting rehabed and the cool old logos will be gone forever. This has to be one of the most out of the way VW shops ever and it hung in there for like 40 years serving locals and travelers on Hwy 50. Luckily the owner saved everything so I got some cool old stuff and lots of "nuts and bolts" goodies. I loaded my hardworking 69 (ex-adventure wagon) to the brim, it looks lowered its so heavy. The shop had 2 engine rebuild stations with custom engine stands attached to a pipe and anchored into the floor. Straight up old school..enjoy _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Any good stories out there? Its small 1 bay, bathroom, front office, wood heat, hand powered tire machine, homemade wooden work benches and parts racks. Nothing thrown away since parts had to come from the mail and a phone call. Lots and lots of manuals, no internet. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Not sure but I think it was service station way way back ( the first kinda shows an island ). My Bay has been taking me everywhere since 1985, and yes those are Dead stickers from THE DAY.

Wow!! That would be an amazing picture, any chance of posting? I'm really fascinated by this shop since it was so out of the way and yet held on for so long. Kind of reflects the resilience of VW themselves. I wonder how many freaks from the midwest came limping in on 3 cylinders, looking for the Colorado experience, and found this VW repair oasis? La Junta is serious farm/ranch country more suited to Ford Trucks than VW's. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Here is an idea of how heavy the Bay was with all the parts..took a long time to get into 4th gear on the flats. I got it all unloaded but there is so much stuff its overwhelming. Just a teaser NOS 36 HP pistons w/vw part numbers..oh ya! More to come

Hmm. very interesting that it lists the same name and GJ address, I wonder if they had a sister location or a copy cat name? Still a running engine? The La Junta branch was very into German VW part numbers..not much EMPI, Brazilian stuff. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |
