Just wondered if anyone had any idea what vehicles used a rear brake caliper with a cable parking brake actuator that I might be able to find off a salvage vehicle in a yard? I'm not interested in kit calipers unless you can get a pair for under $150 and they work.

I happen to have two cars so far. Nissan Sentra and mid-eighties Cadillacs.

Hoping to increase my odds of finding something in the crappy yards around me..

914 rear calipers are very expensive.

The rear brake kits use jetta type rear brake calipers. Late 80s to late 90s type vw cars use them. Very common parts.

Porsche 944 non aluminum trailing arm discs are a direct bolt on to type1 trailing arms. They are in the junkyard all the time, cable parking brake too.

The second generation Ford Taurus upper level models had disc brakes on the rear until 2000. They are made by Varga. I used a set on my son's Baja and with a little tweaking they fit into the same brackets as Ghia calipers.

You gave me a lot more response than Ii thought I'd get, thanks

I've already bought some non-vented rotors and with my Avery's trailing arms I can not use a caliper bracket made for VWs - I'll have to custom fab my own from what ever comes with whatever caliper I end up getting.

The mustang or taurus units are prolly the most likely to be found in my parts.

thanks again for the suggestions and ideas..

Inspired to keep looking I found some Audi S4 calipers on Amazon for $38/pair. Of course being Amazon they only had the driver side on sale, so I'll be working with two left side calipers. Doesn't really matter considering what I'm doing.

944 have drum rear parking brake inside of the rotor hat. Very heavy and adds almost 1" of offset.

I had a few older Subaru cars that had front disk breaks with cable parking brakes also.

Also my Dodge Stealth has 4 wheel disc brakes and a parking brake but it has been such a good car I have not had to work on the brakes LOL.

I think stealths have the drum in rotor arrangement because the rear calipers have no provision for a cable that I saw.
I spent at least an hour going through all the makes on Rock Auto's sight checking out pictures of rear calipers. Ugh!
I hope the audi calipers work though. I went for them first because they were less than $20 a piece, second they came with mounting brackets, and finally because they are not bulky and the parking lever looks like it could easily be reworked to accept what ever cable I choose coming from any direction. I may need to make a spacer to put behind a pad; I'm not sure yet if these are used with vented rotors which are thicker, but I'd guess they are.
Now I just have to poke some studs into my rotors and I'm in business!

Ressurecting an old thread, did you complete the build of the audi disc brake build?

Any pictures?

Thank you

I've been trying to figure out what to do for an ebrake/parking brake... My baja has the 3x3 empi micro stub kit w/ wilwood 4 piston brakes from Pacific Customs, I didn't know it when I bought them, but there's no ebrake attachment for it that they sell. So far the only ideas I have are the Empi hydraulic park lock (not very good), and making my own cable ebrake with a wilwood Spot brake that kart racers use.

Sorry, I've been busy as hell lately.
I finished fabbing the audi calipers onto my trailing arms and they work. My rig is still in the final assembly stages so I haven't had any real world testing on them. I encourage people to do some research and find a better caliper to use than this audi caliper. The audi is made for a vented rotor so it's too wide for any rotor made to work on the VW. I modified the brake pad bracket so there was more travel for the pad to reach my rotor and I have to double up pads on one side of the caliper to take up the space. In my case I don't see a problem with that but it's a trade-off I've made to make my experiment work. Someone who looks at it may think it's kinda wacky to have two pads stacked up if they don't understand I was making $16 calipers fit my application.
As far as the e-brake side of it, I did not get into working on that because my build is getting long in the tooth. I can always fashion some cables to work later. In hindsight, I don't think e-brake is worth the effort unless maybe you live someplace like San Fransisco.
I think I need to play with master cylinder sizing. The 3/4" seemed to have too much throw so I might go to the next size down.
As for the line lock, I just picked one up for my baja the other day just haven't felt like plumbing it in yet.

Any '98 to '05 golf, Jetta, beetle has nice light weight aluminum calipers with a parking brake actuator.

Just be sure to grab the caliper bracket too (8mm Allen sockets.).

That looks similar to the audi. I take it it's a solid rotor type?

Yes sir. & they'd be very compatible with 914 rotors. The first pic is one from a Jetta, the second pic is one mounted to a '05 Passat, so '98-05 passats are a source also. Earlier golfs, jettas, & passats are also viable but they will be iron.
