Hi, firends!
Decided to deal finally with the reason of "a heavy steering wheel" on the car. I replaced, a steering box, spindels, ball joints and excenters.
The reason disappeared in excenters and the ball joints bought in Germany in very famous store for this car but as well as specified earlier new spare parts so-called NOS (New Old Stock) - have nothing in common with OEM quality.
The result of works an easy wheel and the minimum backlash, but will tinker it was necessary fairly, it was necessary even to pull out plates of the front torsion that it is correct to put them.
In addition I restored the OEM Bosch ignition coil, replaced front axle bearings for better analog well and there are a little more jobbing.

Couple of questions. I have a 98 Mexi and the bolt in the bottom of my passenger side wing window is broken off. Do I need to replace to the complete wing or is there a fix. If I need to replace it will one from a late 70s US beetle work? Also are there any service or owners manuals out there for sale? Thanks Kevin.... |

I'm pretty sure a '70s one will work, a picture would confirm. _________________ 1971 Super Beetle (past)

If you search www.1600i.de, you will find most of what you need to know about these 1600i mexicans. |

Thanks. I thought they were probably inter-changeable. Any thoughts on the manuals? |

Contact Antonio Trejo for an owner's manual. He may still have some for sale, they would be for the 2004 model year (I know, I bought one). There is also a service manual (maintenance, oil changes). They are both in Spanish.
There are pdf's of the owner's manuals right here on Samba under the Technical section. I know as I uploaded the 1996 German language version.
www.1600i.de has lots of info, including wiring diagrams.
There are factory repair manuals (English) available, I have pdf's of those, they are large files. They generally have the same info as the Bentley's for the '70s Beetles with a few different sections specific to last generation of the Mexican Beetles.
If you are looking for service manuals (like the Bentleys), the closest is the OMNICAR manuals (German). These contain some of the same info as the factory manuals as well as additional info like Digifant codes. Also a parts list, very expensive, I have a set of those as well (hard copy).
If you are interested in purchasing the OMNICAR manuals have a look at:

New member of the family. 1996 fully restored and semi cal look. Custom interior and sound system with drop spindles (nightmare in Mexico). Going to install Monroe air shocks on the front to help. Very fun car to drive in current set-up.

Hello World!
Today last warm autumn days in Central Russia and we different clubs of classical aircooled Volkswagens held the meeting in Moscow! There arrived two Karmanns, several Bugs and T2B buses. Special guest was ZAZ 968M with rear aircooled V4 engine. The Season 2018 is completed!

Hi, everybody!
On October 6 in autumn rainy weather took part in closing of the Moscow Classic Grand Prix Championship on the track "Moscow Race Way" near Moscow.
It was interesting to observe how crews of classical Russian Lada and Gaz cars on the wet track.
Organizers provided us two circles of driving through the route, was very great!
We will surely meet in the spring on MCGP again.

Good afternoon everyone, I must say that this is an excellent thread - fascinating to read about Bugs from all over the world. After a very busy 2018 I have some time to continue the search for a Mexican Beetle here in the UK. I found a 1600i UK import which appears to have an oil leak(s) - see enclosed picture. Hard to be sure but I think the oil is coming from the push rod tubes and possibly from the main seal. The car is low mileage and registered in 2002.
Anyone on the forum have experience of oil leaks with the 1600i ? regards

Anton:
Love the pictures, keep them coming.
My season here is drawing to a close, 2 inches (~5 cm) of snow today. I went for a drive yesterday, I hope not my last for the season. It's a bit early to park for the season, but it will depend on the weather. We now need some rain to wash away the road salt, which i hope we will get this week. Maybe another couple weeks left .

My car was leaking about the same as your photo when I bought it 6 years ago (~60,000 km ago). I just kept an eye on it, but the leaks around the push tubes were so slight that I never even noticed the car using oil (no level drop). Also there were never any drops on the ground.
I do now have a leak problem that has surfaced and got worse over the past couple months. I think I'll drop the engine this winter and resolve the issue.
This leak is not related to the tubes, but the air intake. I have some other things to take care of (new exhaust), so I'll deal with all that this winter. _________________ 1971 Super Beetle (past)

mine looks the same around the pushrod tubes, nothing to worry there. check the oil pump area, a leak there may come from the pulley and be a sign that the engine has been overfilled with oil in the past. _________________ cars:

Is there a specific thread I can read that discusses the pro's and con's of the Mexican beetles vs an older german beetle? I have a 72 beetle, but I'm thinking about buying a super low mile late model Mexican. I've just never kept up on this topic so I don't know about parts, pro's or con's of buying them, general thoughts on them. looking for a jump start with other peoples experience and opinions _________________ 1973 Super Beetle
