atomatom, I think you made the right choice. I've had "All Weather" Nokians on my two other cars (Honda Fit and Subaru) and they're great tires. Had the Entyre on my van and they were also good, but i fell victim to "offroad envy" and got a set of General Grabber AT2. Too soft for me. 20k on them, maybe. I'm going to get a set of those WRC3 in 15" eventually.

What size Grabbers did you get? And what do you mean they're too soft? Poor conrnering? Bad MPG?

205/75/R15. Yeah, they feel soft in cornering. Just spongy. My MPG dropped from 20mpg hwy with the 205/70/R15 Nokian Entyre (NLA) to about 18mpg best case on the Grabber. It is a bigger tire diameter, prob higher rolling resistance with the tread, and heavier. Not too surprised. I'm more bummed about climbing power loss and handling. Others seem to like them though!

I have a 2.2 Rocky Jennings motor and stock 4spd trans.

I looked at various winter tires but was told approximately 40% less tread life if you're using all year. I live in So Cal with occasional forays onto dirt roads.

The Geolandar 205/70r15s are nice. Slightly under rated with the 9% reduction but are rated 51 PSI so there is debate whether yo need to derate them. Close to stock diameter 26.3" and the high psi will probably mean no loss of mpg.

I put NOKIAN WR C3 60/215/16 on about 3weeks ago and after a little over a 1000 miles I really like them. they are much stiffer around corners and don't mush like the Michelen hydroedges I had on before. They are all weather tires and the stiff sidewall is much better in tracking in crosswinds. Not inexpensive but worth it, imho.

Okay, so are these heavier tires than what you replaced? I'm trying to decide if the weight penalty effects climbing power, etc.

I'm tempted to just go with the WRG3 in a 205/65/15 because it's lighter than the C3 and very close to stock diameter and has a decent load rating.

thanks

The wrc 3's I chose are the ones closest to the diameter I had ,about .5 " over stock and probably do weigh slightly more than the same size hydroedges they replaced. If anything they might be a tiny bit faster than the hydroedges ,do inpart to the higher tire pressure and low rolling resistance. So for my van they were not any sort of perfomance hit. They do corner faster so I can keep up the all important momentum of a vanagon. I 'dont have any experence with the wrg3 so can not compare the two. Lots of folks have commented on the wrg3 and get overall good rating. With my van which is often well loaded I wanted a stiffer tire to reduce sway etc which is why I chose the wrc3. Tire choices can be agonizing.

ok so the holiday %10 deal is off, but at $53ea shipped it's still a deal on 15in load rated quality brand tires.

Just purchased a set of staggered 16" CLK320 alloys. Widths are 7 and 8 inches. I was originally thinking BFGoodrich KO2 225/70/16 all around but I'm now wondering if I should have a different size on the back to make up for the different sidewall bulge. FWIW this is a 2WD Doka so no concerns about clearing a sliding door...thoughts?

Michelin Agilis CrossClimate looks like an interesting tire. It doesn't appear to be available in North America right now though.

Feedback / my experience on Nokian Hakka C Van 205/65R16C (107/105T) on '98-'00 Mercedes CLK320 rims.

- Mounted new in March 7th, 2015 on my 2.1 '88 Westy
- Fit on '98-00 CLK 320 rims was excellent, no rubbing, no spacers, spare fits in the slightly dropped clamshell. Snow chains would not fit in the front and would require spacers.
- Speedometer was slightly under actual speed due to larger size
- Driven appx 40K miles all over US and Canada in all seasons/conditions/temperatures/surfaces/elevations/terrain
- Tread wear was fairly even, I rotated all five regularly, with 40 psi up front and 50 back
- During last weeks 1500 mile long weekend trip it appears that 3 steel belts let go with 1 out of 3 making tire totoally out of round. No idea what may have been the cause of it. (tire shape / size changed and one totally out of round, undriveable although I had to for 700+ miles Wink ).

Edit; I believe what may have caused the belt separation is the age of tires. I bought and mounted tires in March 2015. The manufacture tire date of 0310 indicates tires were over 5 years old when sold. I'm actually surprised radials that old are "allowed" to be sold. Lesson learned always check the manufacture date of each tire prior to mounting. Current Nokians are marked as 0818, so 8th week of 2018. Hope those belts will last at least 8 years, otherwise no more Nokians for me Smile

Time for new tires. Willing to try Nokian again this time it'll be Nokian C Line Van 195/65R16 on same rims. Going with 26" diameter this time (previous 26.5) to closer match stock size. I rather have slightly higher engine RPMs during interstate driving vs earlier 2nd shit down shifts on the up hills.
That is unless someone has valid reason/s to suggest otherwise Smile

Cheers !!!

I have been reading this thread and my head is about to explode.

-2WD 85 Westy and I have some CLK 16 inch rims (purchased small spacers and lug nuts from T3)

-Stock engine, stock trans, but soon to have a 2.2 subaru by the end of the year.

-I come from rock crawling and I like large tire low center of gravity (LCG) builds. I don't want to lift my van, I would rather add bump stop and trim fenders, zero lift springs etc..

From others experience what is a good size for keeping it low, stock 1.9 trans, 2.2 conversion?

215/65 R16 = 27

215 /70 R16 = 27.9"

225 /70 R16 = 28.4"

I would not exceed 27" unless you plan on changing gearing. 2.2 Subaru although greater hp over stock still may not be adequate to take you up the steep hill at a reasonable speed with 28" tires. 27" "should" have enough clearance.

My 2 cents.

Cheers,

Tomasz

looks like some stock diminishing on another load rated 14..

these were a cooper brand, though no mention of cooper on the 3 ebay auctions..

with a current Ebay (code=JUSTRELAX) 20% coupon deal.. brings them to $60ea delivered. *oops %20 coupon is for $50max savings.. so you'll need to coordinate if you want more than 3 tires at that price.

yes these are listed as [2015] (3yr old tires) hence the clearance pricing.

*edit, this website lists them as a 90/93 load range tire.. still a 6 ply, but I'm curious why a 6 ply would be a 90/93 LR

but
ebay has a %20 code = (JUSTRELAX) for the holiday weekend ($50max savings)
bringing them down to $33.60 ea delivered.
