hoping to get some advice here. looking into general grabbers and bf goodrich all terrain ko2 tires for my stock suspension 2wd westy with gowesty 15"x7.5" cast wheels.
anyone have experience with general grabber at2 215/75/r15 on a similar setup? they're cheap(ish) compared to the bfgoodrich and available from discount tire in my area right now. leaving town in about a week so hoping to get my tire situation sorted out soon.
cheers,

I have the 15" rims and was looking at those tires. I noticed no one answered. If you pull the trigger and buy them please post a review here. _________________ 87 syncro tintop

The General Grabber AT2 has been discontinued. It's replacement costs twice as much.

Ya, AT2's were DC'd a couple years ago now. I put 4 on the van in 2018 and paid $113 each, IIRC.
FWIW, your link is $220 for "quantity of 2" which price-wise still seems right in line...yes?

Not a lot of choices out there for the stock 14" alloy wheels. I currently have a well used set of General Altimax tires with 65K miles on them on my Vanangon (89 GL tin-top) and they need replacing. I can get the exact same tire in a 205 /70 R14 with a load rating of 95 - OR - I can go with a smaller Hankook Vantra LT in a 195R14 with a much higher load rating of 106.
I like the 205 size tires but am considering the smaller 195's because of the higher load rating. Even with the 95 load rating I have not had any issues with the current tires on my van. They ride nice. I have 185's on another one of my Vanagons and they just seem too small - even though they came stock from the factory that way. Will the 195's look too small as well?
I originally thought about the General Grabber AT/X's in 27X8.50R14, but these seem too aggressive for my use. The Vanagon these new tires are going on spends 95% of the time on the city streets and highways with an occasional dirt forest service road thrown in every once in a while.
I am interested in getting feedback and thoughts on what tire to get:
- General Altimax in a 205 /70 R14 with a 95 load rating,
- Hankook Vantra LT in a 195R14 with a 106 load rating, or
- General Grabber AT/X 27x8.50R14 with a 95 load rating
Thanks in advance! _________________ 1989 Vanagon GL - 2.1 (White - "Northlake" Totaled/Gone)

has anyone fit General Grabbers (14") on a Carat? they are slightly lower than other vanagons and I've LOVED my grabbers on my split, however i can't tell if they will rub on a Carat. I've looked through the thread and can't seem to find the info. |

I'm running Michelin Defender XT 215/60r16 95T on my new to me 1990 Westy with GoWesty 16" wheels. My slider when open is about 1/4" from the tire sidewall. I'm looking at swapping to some decent tires. Don't think I NEED the BFG grabbers as I'm not doing lots of offroad. More road with some sand/wash.
I've seen so many different ratios on the 16" rims, but lost on the somewhat plug and play. The 95 tire load seems a little to low and my sidewalls have signs of dry rot. In high winds I get a lot of sway, so some could be due to weaker sidewalls/95 load rating? |

95 on auto tires is barely, if sufficient. You need to take 9% off the load rating.

That's one of the reasons I wanna get off these tires ASAP. I didn't see the load index rating until I finally started looking at tires, but realized if I up the ratio, I might rub on the door.... |
