all i know is that it has had 2 owners. slight rust and has a moon roof havent went to look at it yet. it isnt running and all 4 tires are flat motor is blown. its been sitting in his garage for about 20 years. no pics yet but i plan on making a trip to see it. it belongs to a coworker.
what would be a good offer to make sight unseen?

Rust is the big factor in determining price. 72 is one only year. Deluxe sunroof is desirable. If the interior is solid and all there as well as headliner intact no rips. Straight Cali dry body. Non-op I would give $500-$2500 depending on condition. _________________ Special Thanks to:

Sounds more like a $300 bus to me if it has a clear title. No title and it should be freebie. |

I own a '72 and had one in the past. A lot of people don't like it because it has a T-4 engine and no hatch to work on the engine. That and you need an engine and 4 tires, battery and who knows what else are good arguments for a cheap bus. If it has a title 3-5 hundred. |

Them calling it a Moon Roof bothers me. To me, it sounds like they cut a hole in the roof to install one of those goofy sun/moon roofs that are mostly plastic. If it has a true original sunroof, then, yes, I agree with the 3-500, probably closer to 500 depending on what all is missing. _________________ '03 MV |

Awesome!
You'd be amazed at what you can do with some basic tools.
Do you have the John Muir "Idiot" book? It has a pretty good starting point called the "Phase I Tool Kit".
If you let us know your plans we can better assist you. What tools do you currently own? _________________ 1976 Westy

I currently have the basic tools i have sockets and wrenches a couple ratchets, breaker bars, pry bars extensions, . I used to own a honda so basic tools to work on that.
Here's my list of must get tools
Torque Wrench
Jack
Jack stands
Muir book
Bently
for now plans are to just clean it up and get it running. Might have to get the engine rebuilt (worst case)
best case new points, check timing, you know better start with easy things to make sure that's not the issue.

You should also have a torque wrench and Bentley, and get a good large jack. The 1700 is a wonderful engine IMHO. Loves to rev, less expensive and easy to find parts, very robust. One thing to have done is get all new valves in the heads as some had the crappy sodiums that like to break. Most important is rust issues, especiallly in the chassis. Good luck. |

Alright so after a long wait I finally went to check out the bus.
Its been parked in his enclosed carport since 1983. Some rust on the nose below the windshield. Body looked pretty straight couldn't roll it out since it has 4 flats looks all original, but I'm no expert hell I forgot to look at the odometer. I was just to excited. I pick it up this coming week. I'm so excited don't know the exact year of the bus and wont know until he is able to go get the title from his safe deposit box.
any way enough talk here are the pic's
not the best pics since they are from my phone.
more pics being sent from my phone to email so i can upload them to photobucket to post here |
