What brand/type of glue did you use for the boot side trims? Car looks great!

I'll check in the morning for you. Fronts are 5.5 15's, will check tyre size. Not sure on rear, they're banded steels so will try to work out from tyre size.

Was just some cheap eBay stuff, Rapide spray contact adhesive.

Managed to snag another bargain, original sill plates for inside the doors. They need a good clean and polish but think with a bit of elbow grease they should come up alright Smile

Didn't get a huge amount done today, tested the jack out etc.

Washed both cars:

Sorted some rust on the sill guards:

They're never going to come up shiny so zinc'd them ready for some paint:

Tomorrow will be prepping the car to go in for headlining and touching up a few chips in the paint.

So as a result of drunk em eBay antics I had to go pick some bits up.

Challenge of the day was to fit them in a smart car as I didn't fancy the fuel cost in a 1.8T Ibiza!

Accomplished.

Came home to find the fastback had a flat. Gave me a perfect opportunity to test fit a gasburner:

Quite like it but that's a 175/55/15, think I'll invest in 175/65/15 tyres on back to give some comfort and not mess up gearing as much.

You might want to go with a 185-65-15 for the rear. This will keep the gearing a lot closer to stock, as it's similar in overall size to the stock tires. Wink

In a perfect world I'd transfer the 185/65's off the existing wheels but with these wheels being et25 I may find 175 is all I can get away with. I will do some measuring to check Smile

This is potentially a very stupid question but I'll ask for reassurance:

Currently there's a 175/55/15 on the back. If I measure and see I have at least 10mm clearance this means I should be able to fit my 185/65/15's on the rear axle, right? I don't need to leave more than 10mm clearance for other factors?

I couldn't tell you, as I'm running 205-65-15's on the rear of mine, along with 195-60-15's on the front. Both of those are larger/wider than what you're using. The 195's still keep the speedo within 8 mph of being right, and the 205's keep the rear gearing dead on. Cool

That's worth knowing, what offset wheel are you using?

The correct wheel bolts turned up so will be putting the other side on tonight and swapping the radius bolts out on drivers side for these:

So I can safely drive car around the corner tomorrow to drop it off at the upholsterers. It's finally going in for a new custom headliner, pillar trims and a few other little bits, as well new window seals whilst these are being done.

Unsure, as I've got 2 sets set up the same. One set is painted Mangles from the early 80's (they were on my wife's 70 Fastback when we bought it), and the other set I'm still trying to identify, as I was originally told they were Westerns, but I think they're something else, like 36 spoke Shelbys, and they came on a 76 Bug I used to own (they're from the early to mid 70's). Both are close in the rear, but are on IRS cars (like you have). One car just has the stock 34+ year old sag in the rear (my 65 Notch) and is dropped 2 inner splines up front, while the other car is dropped 1 spline in the rear, and 2 outer splines up front (my 71 SquareVert). I do know I can swap the tires and wheels between both cars, and both clear the fenders. Cool

I have 205X70 & 185X60 on my square. My 2.0 Liter wheels are 5.5" wide with ET40. I am 2 inner splines down in front. I had to fit a 1/4" spacer on the rear so my dust caps would go on, but still have 20mm to the rear fender. You didn't have to put spacers on the rear? Put your 175 or 185 on the front and buy 195 or 205 for the rear. Make the Tire Shop mount a 195 & 205 for you to test fit before buying them.

Here's a pic of both cars with the 36 spoke Shelbys. You can see the differences in ride height (tire gap) between them. Wink

Thanks guys gives me a good idea what I can get on there Smile

Rear wheels are back on Smile real mix of tyre sizes front and rear but it only needs to drive two minutes round the corner like this to the upholsterers. Quite lucky I found a good one so close to home!
