I have a couple of similar but not identical pieces of tin, and am keen to find out which goes to which year Type IV engines.
In the fiche above, there is a part called, maybe 21A. It's the grommet on the front edge (towards the front of the vehicle) of the right sled tin (21), or warm air channel. I have two sled tins for the right side. One has the hole with the grommet, and the other does not. Are there particular years that these go to? |
The one with the grommet is for dual carb/manual fuel pump engines. It’s the hole for the pump weep hose.
I *think* the ones without the hole are for ‘79.

The perforated ones are for carbed buses (fuel pump drain hose). So let's say 72-74 for the hole and maybe 79 for the no hole?, not sure which later heater boxes have the same shape, 75-78 use a radically different sled tin. And how about FI'd type 411/412 cars?, the heat exchangers look odd, but I've never paid much attention to the sled tins. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Kinda think 411's are like 72-74 buses. Ray Greenwood would have the last word on that question, I think.
I agree with your answer about the weep hose hole.

I think, but am not sure, that the 411s and 412s had their own sled tins as the heater boxes where much smaller than bus heater boxes. |

Great information -- thanks, guys.
I have 3 '72-'74 buses, all of which are using their original fuel pumps, and all of which have the weep hose simply dangling. I didn't know it was supposed to "go" anywhere - ha!
So, the one without the hole must be a '79, but will work on the '73 if I just let the weep hose continue to dangle. _________________ John
