Sambanistas,

Anyone ever use a kit to repair a CV boot?

I put 2 small punctures in my outer CV boot on my syncro. I have another boot on the way, but was curious.

Thanks!

Not yet..
But I am very tempted to try a spilt boot. I have eaten 2 boots on the trans side of the passenger side axle set. In the last year.

I rarely drive thru deep water.. and I have seen these split boots used on various offroaders.. which got me thinking about it.

I am just curious as to any thoughts...

I have the whole knuckle/rotor assemble off for wheel bearing so I will likely just replace the boot. I want a future option though!

I used a split boot on a previous vehicle (Mazda MPV - front axle), and it worked fine for the remaining time I owned it, but that was only a few months.

I'd use one for a temp fix (don't have to remove the axle... with the MPV - might be harder with a Front axle in a syncro), but for long term I'd pull and replace with a real boot.

It's a little tricky to install, as all the mating surfaces need to be completely clean for the adhesive to work. Kinda difficult with CV grease all around, but doable.
