It was some kind of rubber hose that dissolved inside the fuel tank and made the fuel rubbery black.
The rope is what's usually in the rubber to strenghten it.
The tank has been cleaned and coated on the inside and is already back in the bus. |

Did the bus come with a Catalytic convertor when it was born? The ends break off and fall into the tank and block the outlet. you can also get a piece of paper or plastic floating in there. Were it me and I lived with it this long, I would put a. electric fuel pressure gauge on it and mount it somewhere that I could see it. If the pressure falls suddenly when this happens you either have a blocked fuel outlet or a bad pump or pump circuit. If the pressure holds solid then you can eliminate that and remove the fuel pressure gauge. You can also mount a tachometer up front and see if it falls gracefully with the engine slowing, if it goes wildly erratic or bounces when this happens. That will tell you kind of what the ignition circuit is doing. Also feel the coil and see if it is really hot. It could be a bad coil cause that is how they act up when the go bad.

It's the fuel supply tube that crosses the bottom of the bus. Notice how it's almost pinched shut. The pinched-off end was the end at the tank. It looked like the original hose and original crimped factory hose clamps. I can't help but think that this tube has been like this from day one. I put a big magnet in my gas tank.
I did it to grab the rust flakes I used to get. I pulled my tank and cleaned it up real nice and put the magnet back. It never bothered anything before, so now its just preemptive.
Now i wonder if i could have just stuck it to the outside... Hmm. _________________ Champagne Edition Roadtrip monster "Juakali"
