Just wanted to thank posters on this thread for helping me with my vapor lock/hot stall problem on my '68 stock Ghia.
After driving on a hot day, the car would stall. The gas in the fuel filter was bubbling, almost seemed to be boiling. The cause was the metal fuel line resting against the pre-heat tube on the carb manifold and getting very hot. My laser temp gauge showed 144 f on the fuel filter and 143 f on the fuel pump. Rectified by moving the metal fuel line.
Wish I could post the video of the bubbling fuel filter.
Anyway, much appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Dwight

If you dismantle a VW engine and reassemble it enough times, will you end up with enough extra parts for another engine? |

The fuel filter in that location is your problem.
You have a lot of fuel exposed to hot air laying in the engine zone, so vapour is normal.
Please note that if the pump feels a "sponge" pressure in the outlet, it simply does not work. Pump outlet shall be directly connected to the carburetor.
Remove that filter and install it under the tank, this will solve the problem. |
