I swear, this will be my last rear bumper post.
I need someone to post a photo of a good, straight '76-79 bus rear bumper, mounted on the bus. The shot needs to be looking straight down at the top of the bumper, framed to show the whole span between the tail lights.
What I'm trying to figure out is how straight or curved the forward edge of the bumper is supposed to be in the span between the tail lights, relative to the back of the bus.
Yes, I have searched the Gallery and other websites and asked several owners directly, but no luck so far. Please, posting challenges to why I might need this isn't helpful - just asking for one simple photo, that's all.
Thanks!!! |

aeromech - thanks, (and nice bus!) but I really need to see the space between the front edge of the bumper and the flat rear metal of the bus. That's why I need a shot looking straight down at the top of the bumper. It appears the bumper just about contacts the two flanges that stick out at just below the corners of the engine hatch, which is a good point of reference, but I really need to see straight down. |

Oh, no need to apologize - I appreciate what you've posted. Just wanted to clarify for the sake of anyone else reading the post.
I've got a painter waiting for the go-ahead on my Brazilian bumper, just need to check that it's properly formed and have found reasons to be concerned. With the right photo, I'll have the reference needed to determine go/no-go. |

Unfortunately I don't have a bus handy to get the picture for you. Try sending a PM to SGKent. He has a 1977 bus and might be able to help. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

This is my '79 and I am pretty sure the bumper is out of whack, but maybe this will help?

Hey Eche_bus -
as we discussed, I can't get the photo you are looking for with my bus, but a google search found the following. They don't seem to be exactly what you are after, but they might help provide additional data points.
Good luck!

(note: I do not own, nor did I ask permission to post these photos. So, I apologize the owners.) _________________ '78 Deluxe Westy - Loose Lucy (where I rest peacefully)

This is a good example of what I was looking for. The degree of curvature between the tail lights is clearly visible, and the yard stick serves as an excellent reference. Perhaps this will help someone else in the future.
Thanks also to TheRealMacGyver for the help. Even if it wasn't a real straight example, I can see it has a similar curve. Oh ... and that's not a front bumper, oorwullie. |
