As I never use the city water connection I decided to change it to a 12v waterproof socket for my new solar panel, this way I can plug in the stand alone solar panel into the socket, which is wired to the panel controller and then to the aux battery.

Have you got it set up so you can make a connection from inside so you can sit the panel on the dashboard and walk away locking the doors? |

I never thought of that, good idea.
I didn't want to have to put the wire through the windows to connect to the controller, which is mounted behind the driver seat.
I can put the panel on the dash and plug into the cig lighter, but it wouldn't go thro the controller, which would be no big deal for a short time as it's only a 40 watt panel, it would depend if the sun was shining on the dash
Now you have me thinking of putting another socket behind the seat to go thro the controller
I'm also thinking of putting a change over switch, so I can direct 12v power from the battery to the outside socket, to enable me to use a compressor to pump up tires or blow up doll's etc _________________ 87 Westy/Vanagon |

I did the exact same thing.
However, I'm still looking for a solar solution....
Any info on your pannel Schoonerman? _________________ 87 Westy, 250k GW 2.4 - 2.0 , 16" wheels |

I bought the unit from Canadian Tire, here on Vancouver, on sale for $99 it's a complete kit by Coleman it comes with....
40 watt solar panel with stand
A charge controller
22ft of cable with 2 pin plugs to match with the controller and Alligator clips for battery.
I don't use much power on my auxiliary battery, so a 40 watt panel is enough for me at the moment

I made the same mod, for a portable 100w panel that I store in the attic and set up on a stand outside. Great wiring solution, imho! _________________ 91 Bostig-powered Westy (automatic)
