I'm about to fab my bump stops and I'm wondering what people consider a safe ground clearance. As you can see I can can go pretty low. The oil plug is the lowest point at 1-1/2". Obviously this is too low.
Lemme know what you think is a good distance.

Just set the stop where it at (completely bottom out and no chance for suspension to travel more) and have a good aluminum skid plate.
Over the years I seen many off road race cars that actually had negative ground clearance with suspension fully bottom out.
You do want to have a least a 1in between anything on engine or trans and skid plate. Use aluminum and minimum thickness of 3/16" thick. 1/4" or thicker is better. _________________ Joseph

If its a sand car, it can be close to 0. Mine has 1". If its a desert or woods car you probably want a little more. |

I have like 2-4" at full bump from the ground front / rear |
X2 for this and run a skid plate no thinner than 3/16 aluminum. |

thanks for the suggestions.
It's kinda strange how I ended up doing it. My bags were laying on the arms at full droop so I went up till they cleared. In hind sight, I did this with no air in them so I really don't think it'll matter. lol
Ended up turning out to be about 4" off ground which is fine.
I've always ran skid plates but with the pan on this new motor I'll have to make sure it's better than the street sign plates I threw together before. lol _________________ Brian H.
