I have wanted these (http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=C27-J12116) for a couple years now but couldn't stomach the price ($70!). So today I came up with this. They are cheap rain gutter screens with some screen door mesh hot glued to the back, There is a screen that has the mesh already on but I couldn't find it. Simple, effective and they only cost about $10! Can't beat that. Instructions are self-explanatory but I just cut a length the same width of the window and trimmed all 4 corners to fit. Now I get a nice little breeze up front and I don't have to worry about mosquitoes. Bears are the other hand...

Who else is ready to go camping?!?

What an awesome idea! Is that gutter cover stuff metal or plastic?

I'm going to stop by Home Depot this week for supplies!

Plastic, but if it's meant to sit in the sun it's entire life I'm sure it will take some abuse.

what did you use to cut the plastic and now that you did it, would you have used something different to cut it?

I used some plain old sharp scissors on the first one. Then on the second I used a razor blade on the bottom corners to get a little more precise. The stuff is easy to cut.

Ace, but the same stuff is at every hardware store.

Thanks! I was thinking maybe a box cutter would work but wanted your opinion.

Great idea. It would have helped me when sleeping with the front window cracked last weekend I woke up, feeling like I was being watched, and a wren was perched a foot from my nose. When he saw my eyes open he went ballistic, flapping his wings, hitting the headbanger, the side cabinet, and then flying front to the steering wheel where he scowled at me, collected his bearings, and lit back out the window from whence he came. Had to share...

I bought some of that gutter cover a few years ago and it already had screen attached. A great project for this weekend.

I couldn't find it. I was curious if the mesh was bigger and if it would let some of the smaller bugs in. I figured you can't go wrong with a product meant to keep bugs out.

I just bought the white gutter guard (for this specific application) with the screen attached (glued on) at Lowes here in Athens, GA. I also bought some in Rhode Island a few years back. I will post pics of mine when I get a chance.

Nice! Can't wait to see them. Cut off the end that has the sticker so you don't have to deal with pealing it off.

I made up these for friends a few years ago, at times I still see them using them.
I loaded these pics, I'll share in this thread.

here's the measurement for the Bay window bus fromt door screens. using $2ea gutter gaurd from Lowes or Home depot. trimmed down to 26" and the extra lips (where tucks into side channels) shaved off with shears or a heavy knife. (I use a thin cutting disc on my grinder.
