Yes..kind of a 2-part question. I just got my Kadron carbs back from Low Bugget all rebuilt. I stripped all the old paint off of the steel intakes....so...is it ok to leave them just the way they are or is it better to paint them with some engine paint? I wasn't sure if they would be prone to get some surface rust without some protection.

2nd question is which gasket would be better for the dual port head to intake? the metal crush gasket or paper? I had paper on there before and had hell getting ithem off when I removed the intake. I have never used the metal gaskets and wonder if they would work better. My engine is a 1776 with dual port heads (stock 1600cc size valves). Thanks in advance!

use the thicker cardboard gaskets, my experience with metal gaskets for Kadrons was not good. No problems after getting the tip to switch to the cardboard..

Use the paper, It will seal much much better. Just give them a thin coating of anti-seize and they'll come right up when you need to remove them again. Don't use grease, it'll just bake on and you'll be scraping them off.

Raw steel rusts...
If you want the raw look ...and no rust . Satin Clear over them.

For sure use some good, thick paper gaskets. Those manifolds are welded up steel and prone to warping so be careful not to over tighten them either.

If you want them to look like original, paint them with some black wrinkle paint, best if it's the high temp variety made for engines. If you're going to use the stock linkage, paint that with the wrinkle paint too.
