Clever idea! I wonder if all PVC would work for a lighter modern lantern. I'd worry about the heat from that Grave Robber, but I see it has a baffle.

Tell me about those Shower rails transverse on the roof |

I have the same PVC T fittings on my camper, but I wouldn't hang a kerosene or gas lantern on it, or have a lit candle by the curtains.

If you bunch of panty-waists don't want to use the idea then don't. I honestly do not see how you get out of bed in the morning for fear of falling.
Personally, I used to build and ride Boss Hoss motorcycles with 355 hp Chevy engines on them, as well as nitrous equipped Yamaha Vmaxes so I figure I am relatively safe in a vanagon, even if I have a lantern thrown in the equation.
Enough with the damn safety patrol already. Nobody cares about your ridiculous ideas about safety. Haven't you noticed that, yet?

Just don't use one of these small nuclear reactors.

made one yesterday, was in a procrastinating mood before getting down to real work. some scrap aluminum, slotted the T part (added a little bit of trim to protect paint under gutter) and milled a slot for lantern bail. Clears the sliding door.

Cool.
The upgrade!
Curious.
For what do you use the unistrut-like strap stuff bolted to your westy top?

Me thinks he's welded before!
That's a cool mod for sure! Personally I have a lantern spot at every campground waiting for me...the table.

This is/was my first version. Five maybe six years ago. I prefer a hook just in case. Just my hang up. The slot in the Tee for the Bus is cut at a different spot vs the Vanagon, for me. I like a more upright angle

I'll fess up. I didn't weld the T to the tube. I found it that way. It is well done, welded in one pass. I don't think it is robotic, but was done with a rotating holder. Some talented chappy or lady doing the same weld day after day, machine dialled in, work piece rotating.
Mind you I did manage one or two passable welds later in the day, for actual money.
Neil2 - if I had bigger balls I'd have claimed e welding as my own just to tweak you on your comments on welding machines. As is I left it ambiguous just to see if I could get a rise
The black bit on my roof, was a ill conceived idea to make positioning of roof racks easier. More info on my blog here
http://shufti.wordpress.com/2013/07/27/vanagon-kludgy-roof-rack-rail/
I have he some suitable stainless tubing, so if I make another hanger I'll post it so you can comment on my stainless welds
Cheers
