LOL, I watched the "demo" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9J1-FQ6z_E#t=124
It's not really more advanced than a gluegun with a feed mechanism, except it spits plastic, not glue. :/
For finished parts that one is completely useless, unless one just need to show a rough "sketch" or model of the part to design in 3D, then print it on a real 3D printer.
I understood it so that the Jay Leno produced car parts was actually used to create a mold, then cast in metal. Atleast I thought he said so when it came to the missing doorhandle of that 1920's something vehicle.
I wouldn't think a plastic doorhandle would really be acceptable on such a vehicle, perhaps not strong enough either.
I'm sure there are differences though, in the quality and strength of the finished part being made on these 3D printers.
Anyone have a vanagon part made on a 3D printer yet? |

I had a request for printing a replacement fuse box cover, the small one behind the drivers seat that is for the Westy kitchen. But I have a weekender and don't have this part. I am also interested in reproducing the main fusebox cover (in driver's footwell).
Would anyone be willing to send these parts to me? I will, of course send it back in a day or two.
Cheers,
Chris |

Update: Well after a 16 hour build the gauge holder was complete. I found some issues with the build and will have to make some tweeks. More inf oto follow.
I do have a bunch of custom heater lever ends that look pretty cool and I'm printing out the .300" single DIN radio spacer now.... |

Neat! Can you post a pic? Would love to see it!
Did anyone offer up the camper fuse box cover to copy? _________________ 1997 EVC

I am working on a more 3D Printer friendly design of a similar shape for the guage pod. Fits standard 2-1/8" guages (like the VDO ones in a rabbit GTI). Should have something this weekend... |

Just received HVAC lever ends and windshield wiper arm caps from Unibagel. My originals were removed forcibly and are now shot. I pm'ed him and received a new set of both. I had no idea the detail these machines were capable of. I will be painting them (all) prior to install (haven't checked fit yet, no apprehension about it though.)
Here's a picture that hopefully conveys the detail in the checkerboarded "friction grip" surface of the lever end:
I'm impressed, and can't wait to see more parts developed.
Thanks Unibagel
P.S. The translucent material makes me want to incorporate LED's

I have been thinking of printing some 141.C headlight adjuster pieces that snap into the body. Mine are busted and Van Cafe, RMW and Gowesty are all out... Until i get around the designing and printing them me poor bus will remain cross-eyed

Here's a part to make with 3D printing
I now have six vanagons. Out of all of them, only one of these sliding door
bump stops (official name is limit stop) is still in tacked. Biggest problem is most people don't even know its missing. IF its missing the door will not
close as easy, and it makes a hard metal click when closed. Otherwise
it works fine, until the ball bearing breaks from slamming into the stop.
