Trying to actually document what tools goes in the tool bags of old VWs.
I need your help if you have old instruction manuals, to list the contents from the last page of the manual.
I need lists from various zwitter, split and barndoor manuals and from "KDF-Wagen von A-Z" if anyone has that lying around? Does that one also have a photo of the tools? And of the Jack?
You don't have to translate, any language manual will do Smile

Post lists f.i. something like this:

Type 1 March 1953 manual:
Fan belt
Tool bag
Spare wheel
Jack
Pliers
Screwdriver 0,8
Screwdriver 0,5
36mm wrench
Wrench 8x12
Sparkplug socket
Top 14mm
Tommy bar
Service book
VW dealer list

Thanks in advance if anyone bothers Smile

Thanks Carsten, nice reference picture Smile However, I was probably hoping for sources with dates. But I can date your picture to being the correct equipment for splits produced between September 24 1951 (no wheel lug) and March 19 1952 (klettermaxe is introduced) Smile

Do you know when the 10x14 wrench changed to 8x12 ? I'm thinking October 1st 1952 (zwitter) but would like documentation / confirmation.

Ken.

Why should they have changed to 12 mm at the Zwitter?
Still lots of 14 mm on the car and rarely 12 mm, if any.

Did the early ones have the hubcap removal tool also?

So maybe the change is later? The danish "zwitter" manual comes quite late, in march 1953, by then it says 8x12, so I was hoping someone would own a manual between february 1952 and march 1953 so we would be able to narrow in on when the change took place.

I also need anything older than September 1951, that is the oldest Danish manual, and I unfortunately do not own any german manuals to check anymore.

10-14 is for 25hp - 10mm for the carburetor and 14mm for the fuel lines.
8-12 is for 36hp - 8mm for the carburetor and 12mm for the fuel lines.

Ofcourse! Thanks! Smile
Zwitter and 1953 Oval also have 25hp, but the new carburetor and the smaller fuel lines.
So this also suggests the 8x12 comes with the Zwitter, just as I expected.

...

And yesterday I was able to borrow a German 1950 manual from a friend, but there was no list of the tools. So apparently 1951 is the oldest we can document this way.

The reprint I have of a 10/52 Instruction manual states your list exactly but with a 8/14 wrench. My fuel lines are 12mm. No belt.

Thanks Bob, that sounds interesting, what language is your manual? I've never heard of a 8/14 wrench before ??? This is really strange... Probably this will not change anything at all, but could you please doublecheck?

And yes, the very first Zwitters were delivered without a spare Fan Belt:

From the book "Etzold Der Käfer I"
1.10.1952 (1-0397023) - Bordwerkzeug: Ersatzkielriemen entfallen. (No Fan Belt)
15.10.1952 (1-0402111) - Bordwerkzeug: Ersatzkielriemen beigefügt. (Fan Belt again)

Well, thankyou for taking the time to check your manual Smile

So I have A tool roll that I thought was A 55 bug based on the cloth that it is made from.My lugnut tool doesn't have the clips riveted in they are snapped in.I had the impression that the later ones like 54ish forward were with rivets. Also my wrench is A 8 and 12 MM. is that right? Also the gen wrench has A bend in it should it be flat?I'm not sure if this has all the OG tools for I found the tools and bag scattered around at an estate sale.Heres A pic of the bag from my pictures.I do have A pic of the tools also but it's kinda dark.I'll try o get another pic of the tools.

Hello, thanks for posting photos of your tools.
Can you post an image of the head of the spare lug bolt?
Thank you.
