|
|
The search function on this site drives me nuts. I'm trying to find out an appropriate trans. mount for my buggy. Right now it's a stock '63 pan, engine , trans, etc. I've seen vendors suggest that a solid mounted trans. is the way to go for a buggy but I'm kind of assuming they are referring to an off-road buggy with a larger displacement engine and I may get a lot of vibrations with this setup. Soooo, should I go with stock stuff, urethane mounts, or indeed the solid mount?
Trying to get an order in tomorrow to get it in time for the weekend, Thanks! |

It all depends on how you plan to drive it.
Some things I have found to be true...
Stock rubber works fine unless you are really abusing it.
Avoid the red urethane front mounts. If you want a stronger than stock front mount without going solid, use Rhino mounts. They are awesome. CB performance sells them. It is more of a performance item for power/off road. They are stiffer than stock, but not quite as noisy as solid mounts.
Never solid mount the front and rubber/urethane mount the bell housing. That is just asking for a cracked nosecone.
Solid mounting the bell housing and running a Rhino front mount is a nice sturdy option. It is a bit noisy, but is pretty strong. Adding a front strap makes it even stronger. Good for off road buggies _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

Great question. I assume your buggy is for street use? If so, and you're using a stock to only mildly hopped up engine, stock mounts will be fine and they are readily available.
If you're making a bit more power, say 100hp or more, I'd recommend CB Performance's Rhino mounts.

You may also want to consider a "Kafer Cup" type brace however many buggy bodies do not have room to install this. Basically it ties the shock towers together and triangulates them down to the rear trans mount. This will take a LOT of flex out of the rear end.

Just stumbled on the rhino mounts as I was waiting for responses, sounds like the best thing for me right now as I may end up with a bigger engine in the future and would prefer to upgrade from stock.
Don't think the Kafer cup type brace would fit due to the body issues like you mentioned. Thanks. |

I endorse the Rhino mounts too. About 120 horse, hard street abuse with no problems, no wheel hop and very little noise transmitted. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class
