I would buy a "cheap" Syncro, fix it up (I would spend less than $20k!),

let me get that right: you bought a pretty much rust free syncro with a subaru conversion done, had someone else do the bodywork and paint and installed a new bostig. All that for UNDER $20k? or was that your wishful thinking?

Yeah it was wishful thinking. But if i had stopped with the Bostig and paint/body, I would have been pretty close to budget... ha ha. I got a solid deal on the Syncro and I traded a lot of favors and in kind work for the bodywork/ paint! I like bartering/ trade exchange. Smile

It took a year of our own work and some generous help to get Bo done. And yeah a "smidge" more than 20k... ha

Working on the next chapters with more info on where the time and $$$ went...

Where is that Bostig NFB website? They are conspicuously quiet on the interwebs.

It looks SOOOOOO good on that van.

Thanks man. This is a prototype and those guys are serious perfectionists, so it won't come out until Jim and team are certain of perfection. They tweaked the mounts since we installed ours to change the angle of the bull bars a couple of degrees to make it visually more seamless/ pleasing as it goes around the side turn light... yeah, they really are focused on making things perfect Give them an email or call. We love the snot out of ours and its held up as designed with winching and pulling on it.

Exciting new Partnership
With all of the attention and questions the recent posts from the Bostig powered expedition rig Syncro Bo has been getting on thesamba.com we've decided to announce this sooner rather than later.

We are very excited to announce that Bostig is partnering with Burley Motorsports (http://burleysmotorsports.com/) as the exclusive manufacturer of our NFB line of bumpers. We are especially excited because this partnership will extend beyond bumpers and allow us to offer exceptional value to both of our customers that are looking to build true expedition rigs like Syncro Bo or just improve their vanagons with the very best powertrain, suspension, and exterior accessories available.

The NFB, NFBc, and matching rear bumper with integrated hitch, carrier options, and shackle mounts will be available this driving season, keep an eye out for announcements on:

our website
twitter (@bostiginc)
and facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bostig/

We share quite a lot beyond the love of our rigs with Burley, and we look forward to the new value and performance we will be able to deliver to our mutual customers along with the proven solutions we've both been delivering for years now.

In short, go Bostig / Burley!!

I saw this on the Blog and FB.
Really excited for both Bostig and Burley on this one.

And Bo is such a cool rig.

The shop looks great Burley.
I looked back at the early photos you sent me...most certainly is the motorplex.
Hope to see it soon.

Just posted up the next chapter on the build. The suspension was a lot of trial and experimenting for us.

Looks good! Those look like progressive rate springs? I'm going with dual linear rate on external reservoir shocks.

This is such an AMAZING looking piece of heavy duty equipment! I expect men from the A-Team (Mr. T!!) to come jumping out to save the day...and this is what it sounds as if you guys do. And see how I saved the day for my husband in my next post, thanks to your due diligence...

Budgets are made to be broken even for guys purchasing used parts from great guys.....AWESOME build Randall! That interior is what I will have when I hit the Lotto jackpot. Thanks for those shocks my Westy/Syncro build is getting close to hitting the road soon.

@zeohsix thanks man. It took a lot longer than we anticipated. How are the shocks working out on your build? You have a build thread somewhere?

Unfortunately I had a data card die with tons of photos and details of my build. Some of these were saved in " the cloud " but at the moment the build is still progressing ( 1.8T and transaxle ready to install any day now) I have to do " stealth spending " on Syncro project right now as my wife is keeping better tabs on my project purchases now that she is primary income earner in our family, I cut my take home salary by 60% when I decided I had enough last November and walked away from 30+ years in the building trades. I'm not really sorry that I did that as my union was nice enough to recently send me a wrist band inscribed " we go to work every day to build a better life for our families and ourselves......make sure to work safe " My take, in the modern era people are being marginalized and supervised/micromanaged in the name of cost efficiency to the point of making mistakes by having to cut too many corners, I don't want to become one of the statistics or cause any injuries to the general public ( 5 guys dying a year in a trade of 25000-30000 workers, my trade was #1 in deaths per workers during the last couple of years....time to walk away! ) So the project progresses as time and money are available but I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel right now.

Randall your rig is truly awesome, I hope mine is 80% as good as what you have created it is a truly " over the top " Syncro build with quality parts/material and labor.....a supreme vision of excellence! Enjoy that great ride, I'll post some photos as I'm stabbing my drivetrain in this month. Right now my front differential is being converted to a locking differential by Samba member " Gears ". You might want to see Paul's thread "Syncro Trans Rebuild" to see the transaxle I'm putting in my build, hopefully Paul will have enough time between his work for Derek Drew, to get my front differential back to me sometime in May. I'm already set up with a " triple knob " panel for the dash, I hope to meet you at an event sometime and we can take each other for a drive:D

Next to last chapter posted. I got side tracked with another little project...

@zeohsix thanks man for the kind words. As you know, these projects are a labor of love. I can't wait to see your build man. I love seeing the choices everyone makes on their babies. Are you going to MogFest this year?
