I'll ask .. how do they work ??

They come up from underneath the hard top, slide the felt covered side against the windshield frame and the bolt comes down from the top through the roof.

Super simple.

I don't see it as being necessary or better

Last fall at MOTB, I had my Desert Fox to 84 mph heading South on 12 towards Eric and Val's the day we went there. Tom Thompson's Sombrero stayed on very well. That was with a 1835 cc with dual single 34 carbs and a stock cam.

My Manx will have a 2165 cc with a FK7 cam, dual 40 Dell's, 28 inch tall tire with 0.82 4th gear and I know I will try for 100 mph. I will feel much more secure with a front holding fixture in place. Just like an aphrodisiac, if you think it is working, it is working.

No, back to the past when Bruce made the first Mono!

Firstly none of the hardtops that Meyers Manx have made since they re-introduced them 10+ years ago have fitted into the screen groove like in Bruce's sketch, they all fit over the screen the same as joecoolcustom's.

Secondly the Flatlands kit is nice, but mine is just as secure as theirs. I just used two 2" 'P' clips from a friendly local hydraulic hose specialist onto the roll bar along with two small pieces of wood, two 6mm cup square bolts c/w flat washers and wingnuts. Total cost around $10-

I only know of one person who fitted a hardtop with the spring and lever set-up and he lost it within a few miles, it just blew off. They definitely need something to secure behind the screen

Big call saying none of anything and I am going to have to disagree with that one, have you had many Meyers Manx Hard Tops or just your local copies ?

I have fitted well into double figures and never had an issue. I have a set of Meyers Manx Molds and all the tops taken out have fitted in the windscreen groove.

Anyway back on topic, so these clip things get fitted as well and you have to take them off to get the roof off yeah ?

In that case cool idea I can see the benefit.

I've had two from the US moulds, one from the UK and one from the French moulds, all authorized producers, not copies.

I have a Kick-Out Traditional Build booked in next month that has a Meyers Manx 3 piece Hard Top with it. When we get to fitting the roof I will pay particular attention to getting pictures of the roof as we fit it. This way we will have a known result for the USA Molds.

Did you ship your own to the UK from the USA ?

The first hardtop that I got was sent over by Bruce with a load of other parts; sidepods, dashes and another different design of hardtop etc. for the UK producer to take moulds off for the UK production run. I bought the original top once the mould had been taken. This was late in 1999 or early in 2000 I think. It caused no end of head scratching at the time as it didn't fit the screen at all. It turns out that the screens that the Manxclub had been supplied with (around mid to late 1999 IIRC) had different corner radii to the originals. Dino eventually changed his tooling at Bruce's request so it fitted fine once I'd bought another screen! TBH it would've fitted into the frame groove had I ground it down some as the shape was correct but it seemed a much nicer fit covering the frame completely, plus I didn't want to grind away at a brand new shiney top! Fitting it over the frame also seemed to give a bit more 'wiggle room' for safety in case of a bit of screen flex or scuttle shake.

I belive that those odd shaped screens were also supplied with some of the Signiture Manx kits that were sold around that time, something a Siggy Manx owner may want to bear in mind if they want to fit a hardtop in the future.

My hardtop uses the spring system and the top goes into the channel of the windshield. The system works great when installed but taking the top off and on is a huge pain to get the system back together.

I end up leaving the top on for long lengths of time so I don't have to hassle with it.

How high above the deck or the body does the roll bar have to be to put the hard top at the right height?

I was just looking at the Meyers Manx Inc. website and cannot find the three piece hardtop anywhere on the site anymore. Does anyone know what the situation is here? Did they discontinue the three piece hardtop? Thanks.

Its still pictured on the website so I recon its just down to them not having the easiest website to navigate. I constantly have issues finding things on it. Its still listed in the ad in the current Manxmania.

This thread was originally about these. Other people added their ideas but I am trying to get a set from Flatlands Engineering and wondering if anyone else had any luck?
