Hold off on the Subaru conversion! Laughing

The upcoming Porsche Boxster and Cayman will be getting a 180-degree horizontally opposed layout engine. ...the new engine will produce up to 396 HP and this means that it will be more powerful than the 3.4 liter six-cylinder boxer unit.

I'm sure Andrew can reverse the motor and we can use the Porsche gearbox Wink

Those motors will be at the average Vanagon owner's budget in about 20 years Laughing

No one would ever accuse you or some of the other syncro fanatics of being "average"! Someone will try it...

I'm looking forwards to this happening but it'll take some fairly brainy guys to work on the electronics to get it to run outside of the vehicle.

All of my engine conversions only go up to around 2005 which is when VW/Audi brought in can-bus.

I'd love to use the more modern, efficient, reliable engines but they're just getting too difficult to use in conversions.

Then there's stop start technology, recuperation hybrid systems...

Soon we'll all be flying around in wheeless transport pods and 'driving' will be something that was done in the olden days Razz

No. You can keep the horsepower, but I'll take all the torque available. That engine would no doubt need to be coupled with the transaxle Porsche ends up using in their rear engine models, like the 911. You could recreate a modern version of the B32
