I've got the same thing on my bus. It's generally used for an awning not a tent.
This stuff is sewn to the awning material and slips into that channel.

Those black clips on the underside of the pop top look like hangers for fishing poles.

Do you know who makes this awning? Maybe the black brackets are for holding the awning poles?

I'm pretty sure they are a custom order type thing. You can buy that aluminum rail stuff by the foot. I'm planning on making my own. I have some striped material and grommet kit, just need the time.
Mine doesn't have those black brackets, but Notch might be on to something. Fishing rod or paddle holders. Not to say they wouldn't work just fine for awning poles. Smile

Its amazing how fast the week goes. I am getting very close to paint. Today I finished several of the panels. I need to do some small spot fixes and prep the interior. I also plan on removing the dash. This body is really shaping up. I went to look at a double cab for sale this week at Olsens Air Cooled and came across this stunning Mango colored bus. It was so striking that I had to take a picture. Its amazing how striking these vehicles are when done up correctly. I will be going to order paint on Monday, Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

I discovered a new way for me to clean a fouled out fuel tank. I know that I can get the POR-15 tank kit. I didn't feel like I needed to spend the money. So what I did was drained the turpentine our of the tank and placed water and about 15 ft of heavy chain in the tank. Then I proceeded to rapidly flip the tank from side to side and top to bottom. The stuff that came out was incredible. After this process I used about a half cup of dawn dish detergent to the tank and chain and proceeded to do the same process. I was amazing how clean it was. Word of caution... Tank MUST be free of all vapors and gas prior to inserting the chain. In the end Rinse very well and use a pipe cleaner to clear out the fuel tubes in the bottom of the tank

I had the exact rail on mine. The awning that also came with the Westy was a Coleman brand. I did not have the black pieces.

After a little searching I found some more info:
http://donetta-aplacetocreate.blogspot.com/2010/06/coleman-camper-canopy-cover-replacement.html

http://www.title-3.com/images/Fiamma2.jpg

I'd rather store mine in the bus, but that's kinda cool.

Search "bag awning" and you'll find tons of info.

The spots were rust. I learned on the last build that there is a great product called Ospho. Its phosphoric acid, What you do is grind down the rust as best as possible. Then you spray the acid on the area and rub it in. The following morning the area turns black. The chemical reaction stops the rust the once topped with a good quality epoxy primer your good to go. This product must be top coated. If not and left to the elements you will rust up again. The photo here is one of two trips to the paint supply shop. Easy way to drop $1000.
