I have never had anything other than 1600 DP that I have messed with. But I am buying a Baja that the owner said had a 2036 cc engine in it I have not seen it up close but the picture is dark but I can make out it is not a type
4 block
I have searched that number here and in google but can not fin a kit that would make it
Being somewhat ignorant in aftermarket motors and kits I was wondering how they could have accomplished it
I will be picking it up in the few weeks and will post some pics etc of it

Thanks

90 x 80 mm. Odd and very rare combo.

Ok so it could be done thanks
I will probably get it home and try and start it and run it for awhile but if it gives any trouble I will tear it down and see what I have for guts

Would that be a stock stroke on the crank wih larger p&c's and cut heads
Or would they have had to change crank rods cam etc

A 1600 is 85.5 mm bore x 69 mm stroke. Absent a build sheet or receipts, I would assume that the engine is a 1600 and not pay based on the owner's word of mouth.

unless he is willing to pull a head and show some build receipts, the engine is always a 1600/1641-especially if it only has 1 carb on it

Most 1835s are 1641s.

The only way to know is to tear it down.

If the engine was built more then 20 years ago it could very well be a 90x80 = 2036. 90mm pistons and 80mm cranks are very old combinations.

20 yrs ago I bought a '69 Beetle parts car located in southern CT. It was advertised as having an 1835cc engine. It had a nice set of Dell'Orto 36DRLAs, a 36hp doghouse fan shroud, and some wacky rusty header. When I got it home and took the car apart (underside of the central frame spine was rotted where the pans are welded on Sad but I saw that before buying it), then took the engine apart, it was really a... haha.. hahaha... 1600. In the PO's file that came with the car was a receipt from that G_ _ engine building company in Calif., who sent the "1835" per overnight freight Shocked That was 6 years before I bought the car, so that the PO "could have" removed the 1835 and just put in the 1600, thinking that the Dell's would legitimize the hi-performance aspect. Now even though the engine number was listed on the receipt, and I never bothered to see if the engine in the car was the same engine, at least I got a good set of Dell's. I do remember that the engine shortblock was still usable. I may even still have it now.

Tore the engine down last night
Mis matched heads
Ridge on cylinders
Looks like a spun rod bearing bearing on the crank

Also looks like some damage to a lifter bore and some type of damage to the case near a cylinder hole

Had a Norris 330s cam with hydraulic lifters
8 dowel crank
92 stamped pistons

My real question is is the block and crank salvageable
I will have to send this stuff off to machine it and don't want to spend the money if it's junk off the get go

There are pics of the lifter hole
The damage on the block
And of the crank so you can make a comment

What are your opinions on what I have
I did not buy the car for the motor more for the body but would like to save as much of the engine parts

Also posted a pic of the bearing saddle
Hardly any wear there compared to some I have come across

I know the block is caca inside needs a good cleaning

Sludge and rust

I don't want to spend a lot of time on this I fits junk

Also it's a AK block

If you can have those lifter bores sleeved the case might be OK with a line bore. Pull the plugs and give it a real good clean if you are going to do that, though.

Looks like a stock crank. You said 92 bore, so that makes it an 1835. What do the heads look like?
