Hello everyone and sorry for my english ...
I have a '65 Deluxe and i need to replace the sunroof cover. The original color is light gray.
Can you tell me what manufacturers can I contact?
WW does not produce more.
TMI produces this: http://www.tmiproducts.com/volkswagen/browse-by-ve...grain.html
Can you tell me if the cloth and color are similar to the original?
Some of you have already installed?
Thanks

My original '65 sliding roof was off-white cloth reinforced vinyl. Haven't has to buy one lately. I figured I'd try West Coast Classics or the guy that reproduces all the sliding-roof parts as a starter.

I am not sure of the quality, but i know this guy sells them. Maybe someone else has bought one of the ones he sells and can tell you about them. I know that his sunroof mechanism parts are high quality.

https://vwsunroofs.com/ This is the general website

Here are the two pages for the covers. It looks like he has a pebble white in canvas and a grey in vinyl.

I have tried to contact by email vwsunroof but I don't have received a response.

TMI instead was very kind and sent me samples of two materials: on the left Hartz Cabriolet grain, on the right pinpoint vinyl oxford white. In the background, there's the original sunroof.

Unfortunately, the two colors are quite different from the original and I am not convinced.

The correct material is Haartz pinpoint vinyl.
Here is a color chart:

The darkest grey they make is 1566ST Graphite Grey.
If it isn't dark enough, you might try 2031ST Beige Tan.
It is browner, but darker.

For my Dove Blue Sunroof Swivelseat Kombi, I used 1951ST Ford Blue which was a dead match for the original Azure Blue vinyl top.

What are the original colors of your bus?

Any pictures of the bus?

That dark grey color seems very inconsistent with the tops of 99% of the production line sunroof buses.

Mounty,

Are you 100% sure that the cover on your bus is the original from the factory? The reason I ask this, is for the color of your bus the grey cover is inconsistent with the factory installed covers that I have seen over the past 25 years plus.

The best way to answer this is to remove the 2 screws that hold the top plate to the lower mechanism. Then look at the fasteners that hold the front edge of the material to the top plate.

Post a picture of your findings please.

I'm not sure that the cloth is original but the color is similar to that of the brochures of the time and I think is the correct one for that year

Haartz Europe:
Kafertaler Strabe 318 D-68167
Mannheim, Germany
+49 (621)338 15-0

I'd listen to Doug, he knows a lot about this.
According to the tech reference on this website again, the sunroof color would be 573 light grey V31 for all years of sealing wax red/beige Grey buses.

So, has anyone found a close color match in pinpoint vinyl for this light grey material for SWR/BG buses?

According the paint/upholstery code section here...

The sunroof cover on a Pearl White bus would be: 627 pearl white V98

The sunroof cover on a SWR/BG bus would be: 573 light grey V31

I am looking for the closest match to the original light grey color used. I am hoping someone has been through this and has found something that is close enough and has compared it to an original cover, and has installed it on a bus.

Yes, I have looked at samples online and checked the prefab manufactures of this product.
