Sounds stupid, but I have a customers bus here with what I believe is this sump

http://www.cbperformance.com/mobile/Product.aspx?ProductCode=1761

Is the sump gasket re useable? And I assume the plate nut torque would be what a stock plate would be, correct?

Need to change the oil, but don't want to touch it if I ned a seal

Thanks in advance

Umm.... You might get away with reusing, IF if comes off clean....

IF it was yours, my though would be once you have plate off, have aluminum bung TIG welded to plate so you can just have a drain plug like "normal" engines... But customer may not want added expense for future convince...

IF gasket come off badly, there is always the shot at getting gasket material at local retail/wholesale auto parts...

Anyway the "bung" thing is what I did on my street buggy....

I use "right stuff" black silicone (the thinest layer possible). No gaskets. No leaks. I sand the capped nuts flat and don't use washers.

Shit....I was hoping it was a rubber/silicone gasket there. Seeing its such a huge hole you would figure it would be reuseable (to an extent)

Just another part that needs to be in the tool box....

Thanks for the info guys!

Honestly, if your going to have the deep sump with it's proprietary gasket, I'd pony up for the upgraded plate/ o ring combo that John has at ACN. I realize that it's a customers car, but it would be worth mentioning to the owner. What happens if someday that thing has to come off and there's no gasket around? And really, not having a gasket is about the lamest reason to not do an oil change.

I have reused the CB gasket 4-5 times with no issues. It's dripping just a tad after the last change.

It might take a little longer, but can you just take out a stud and replace it with a bolt???? Walk away and relax a little the oil will come out on it's own.
