I have a new-to-me Vanagon and I've recently had fuel lines and CV joint work done. I started today to clean grounds and came across this wiring which was not connected.
I am assuming this is O2 sensor wiring and should be connected. No complaints about performance, but the engine sometimes dies when coming to a stop after idling downhill. I haven't checked mileage. The spark plugs were recently changed and the old ones weren't black from over rich fuel mixture. The O2 sensor itself looks old and I'll most likely be replacing it soon.

You are correct but it's probably not the reason your stalling, check you aux air valve or relay, often the relay will burn internally and the Idle will suffer, you can disconnect the aux air valve and adjust the idle by the bypass screw, but if you have A/C the idle will drop when the A/C is engaged.
The idle control relay can be repaired , search the forum for the part number and instructions, but if it happen once it'll keep happening. I just bypassed the ICU and it's fine.
