Leave me alone....I don't need to make it any more work than it already is...
I do like that idea though...
I was almost going to make it a slide out.. Glad I talked myself out of that.
The double slider is going to be fairly easy in the grand scheme of metal work. Easier than either of the two above ideas for sure. _________________ Rocky Mountain Westy Inc.

Well,. I guess I should humble up a little bit too. I cut the side off my Syncro Sunroof van last summer. Then I trimmed up a bunch of passengers side sheet metal. It really would be a lot of work to use a passenger door on the drivers side. Possible, yes. Worth it, probably not.
I went ahead and bought this 82 double door and will have it shipped in the coming weeks.
It will be so much easier this way. I can't wait to get it built. Now I am wishing I didn't sell the motor. Oh well, it is only time and money.

Lately I've been thinking about how cool it would be to have a Tristar or RHD Doka door on the LS of a LHD passenger van. _________________ Casey--

Yeah, that would be cool. Harder than a slider for sure. So not sure it would be worth it. What about a regular passenger side Doka door on the drivers side. Than it would be suicide style!
*just reread your post. I guess that is what you meant. Hmmm...that would be cool _________________ Rocky Mountain Westy Inc.

I have jump seats, so a door over there would be kinda cool. _________________ Casey--

Good call. Use a donor when available- why re-invent the wheel?
I wonder if there are additional body supports on a dual slider? Or on the sunroof models? I'm thinking of the Sambas, 21s and sunroof T1s here with their secondary flooring.
On a similar vein of thought the T4s were available with the dual slider option. I have a parts rig here with this option. The curious thing VW did was on some single slider units the rear panel behind where the slider would be, some have the stamping for the external mid-slider rail while others did not.

Hi Mike, I have been looking at that 82 roller for months (even before he took the engine out of the ad) Congrats on pulling the trigger believe me I was tempted to bring it back to passenger status and the factory diesel.
If it has a diesel tranny still on it I would be interested in buying it off you and some other parts please for my current 82 7passenger resto.

By the way, I'm not just a person stalking you for parts,
I'm also a client!
I love my front and rear RMW bumpers and I was the first to get
that smiley face brush guard you put out a few years back!
Great products Mike, thanks for making them!

Just came across this from an old topic which I couldn't then find. Musta been a link from a current topic I clicked on.
This is very cool and my first thought was, "Great. Jumper seats mounted against the firewall." Oops, had the pic turned around in my mind as I never see an open door from that side.
But why not have a jump seat be able to mount there? I often use my car without the passenger seat so I can put long loads inside. Lumber, boats, etc. The car started out as a '91 GL, but I added the mount for a jump seat which shows in the pic above. As you can see, I don't have a permanent rear seat and this middle seat conversion comes out by pulling a single pin and has extra folding rear legs so it can go anywhere in the van or sit outside on the ground. This maximizes the interior volume and gives easy access to the firewall.
Sometimes I need an extra single seat when there is a long load taking space from the front passenger's seat. If I weld up a base the jump seat can clip to and have it quickly fasten to the firewall right beside the sliding door, this would be extremely useful. Of course, because the jump seat has rear vertical legs, the frame will have to extend a ways from the firewall to accommodate the slope. That's OK: it just puts the seat farther forward, but still accessible.
And because I have this:, why not add seat rails to the top of the new jump seat frame so the La-Z-Boy can mount there too?
Whoever you were that posted the link to this top photo, THANKS A LOT!!! I already have a project list of 27,263 and I need another?? Darn, sometimes the top prioritiy projects get superseded by a new one that pops up and just HAS to happen. Hope this isn't one of those as right now I'm in the process of rebuilding a complete ECU/engine harness to get the DD back on the road after a two month hiatus. Wifey points are getting stretched pretty thin.

Two mistakes--First, a minor mistake, the photo of the double door came from this very topic. 2--- I TOLD YOU NOT TO POST PROVOCATIVE PICTURES AND IDEAS. A HUGE mistake.
Tied up with string and with luck that's as far as the project will go. Right now I'm driving a wedge between projects 5,623 and 5,624 and stuffing it in there. Officially #5623.1. Turns out the space from the fire wall to the seat mounting isn't as big as I thought it would be. Alternately, the existing seat posts could be cut and rewelded so the seat would go all the way back to the firewall. This would require relocating the floor sockets in the front behind the PS seat. Not worth it.
There is already one pin setup behind the left side of the seat. By adding another on the right side and a plat in the floor to accept the seat pins, Bob's your uncle. Seat rails woul get fastened to the free as well.
Back to the harness.

Here's a start - when my van was being rebuilt at California Westy. As you can see, the floor is designed for a slider on either side.

A Weekender donor van. I wanted to eliminate the fridge flue.

That looks great! Have you picked it up yet? Hopefully, you'll be making it to the Baja Rally! _________________ '84 Westy, '93 Subaru ej22 and Subarugears 5speed

It was basically a frame-on full body restoration. Cesar does some amazing work. It is sitting at California Westy, waiting for me. My departure for the Annual Baja Rally was buggered by a pending prostate biopsy. If all goes well, I'll cross the border mid-February.
