Yesterday, I waited for the sun to dry up my driveway so that I can work on my bus. Fortunately the sky cleared and it gave me a few hours to work on the bus. Welding underneath the bus is a bit tough and annoying. I wish I had a hydraulic lift pretty much like those at a regular shop. Welding would be much easier with the bus up on hydraulic lift.

That seems to be the way it goes. I spend a lot of time obsessively dry fitting parts. I find that no matter how well made the part or how well I fit it, it behaves differently once I start welding and there are always "adjustments" to make along the way. I am learning to use the way metal behaves to my advantage when welding. Once you get a part partially welded, you can put a lot more leverage on the part to make adjustments. You can also use the heat from welding to your advantage to shrink or move metal. I would love to see footage of a bus body being assembled at the factory from start to finish though I'm sure it doesn't exist. I think they were mostly assembled by people and not robots...

Hi orwell84 Smile

If such film does exist, it must probably be owned & well guarded by the VW company in Germany or Brazil.

Thank you tewfiks,

I wish I have deep pockets to buy those fancy tools and machine to fabricate metal. But project is on the low end of the budget and so I just try my best to shape the sheet metal where it looks a little decent when I weld it on the bus.

Thanks LazyLightning75 Smile

I never expect this bus to have this much rust repair. I kept on asking myself, "what the heck did I get myself into?!" Smile

Hi Pinetops,

I saw your trend about the SO42. You got a beautiful bus. I hope someday I will be able to find a rusty & affordable SO42 and rescue it from rust.

Thank you Smile

watching you make the panels and pieces you need with what you have is just amazing. It reminds me of "Alone in the wilderness" with dick proenneke. that son of a bitch cold make anything he needed with an ax.
