Nice work!, for future reference the odd sheet metal screw or Cleco holds those panels together for welding nicely where the clamp can't reach too, afterwards it's not hard to zap a tiny hole shut on the outside. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I also have a lincoln 140,I only use the D setting for very thick metal,I think it was skillz that said you need more heat, the D setting should give you too much heat,If your running an extension cord you need a heavy duty cord and keep it as short as possible,a lighter long cord effects the welder output,I made one from 12/3 house wire,it works well, you also need to shelter your welding from the breeze,it blows away the gas before the weld sets.
Great job your doing. _________________ https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=620186

Thank you Alman72. With a very low budget, I am forced to just use whatever tools & other stuff I have in the garage. Fortunately there is a Harbor Freight nearby and so I am able to get cheap supplies there. Not the best in quality but very affordable. _________________ 1966 Riviera camper Bus

Hi Busdaddy
Thank you sir. I was thinking of using the sheet metal screws on securing the panel. But because my Westy is park next to my 71 bus Deluxe and there is only about 1 1/2 feet of distance between the two buses, it would be tough for me to squeeze between the two buses and do my tiny plug welds. The wiring harness of my 71 Westy is out so I cannot start the engine.
I pulled the engine of my 71 De luxe because I had it rebuilt. It is actually in my living room right now and is ready to be installed. When my mother-in-law visited us she thought the 1776 engine was part of our livingroom set. _________________ 1966 Riviera camper Bus

Hi Lil-jinx.
When I am doing tack welding, I mostly use the C setting. I think I use the D setting when I plug welded the inner rocker to the floor support because the floor support had a thicker sheet metal than the inner rocker.
I am using a heavy-duty extension cord that I bought from Lowe's for my welding machine.
Wind is indeed a nuisance because I would be welding for a second and all of a sudden a slight wind would blow and the tip of my welder turns into a popcorn machine. When I was welding the rocker panel, I had to sometimes put plywood boards next to me to prevent the wind from blowing the shielding gas. _________________ 1966 Riviera camper Bus

April is just around the corner and I am in panic mode now. My Westfalia is really restless now and it is pressuring me to get its wheels rolling on the open road.
I did some vacuuming around the interior of the Westy and also wiped some of the dust. I cleared most of the clutter inside the westy and checked on areas where I still need to work on. I have to prioritize now my work because I only have a very short period of time before my deadline comes upon me.
My goal here is to make this Westy functional. Full restoration is just way too expensive and time consuming and so I think I already gotten most of the crucial rusted parts done. There are still a number of areas to work on like replacing the small area in the front passenger and driver side floor repaired due to rust. The previous owner just put some sort of tar material to patch the rusted hole on the floor. The doglegs also needs rust repair but these areas will have to wait until I am doing with the interior and also the engine.

I took a video of the 1600 engine in my Westy after I started it for the first time in a long time. I can't even remember the last time I started this engine but it seemed to be working fine. Judging by the sound of the engine it needs adjustments and I will have to work on that.

I finally got the battery recharged and so I started connecting the wirings of the tail lights. The right tail light seems to work fine and also the license plate light was fine. But the left tail light does not seem to work. I cleaned the part where the wires connects to and that was fine. Then I checked the condition of the the wiring harness and this is what I found.
When I removed the wiring harness connections out of the tail lights I noticed that the connections where mostly "Mickey moused" by the mechanic of the previous owner. Some of it were being held by clips. Somewhere in that Mickey Mouse electrical connections caused a ground that burned the wire…I wonder how much more of these will I discover while I dig through the wiring of the bus. _________________ 1966 Riviera camper Bus

Unfortunately, probably quite a few. But nothing like re-doing your entire electrical system to make you feel comfortable with trouble shooting it. _________________ Brutis Patches Izabich: 1970 VW Transporter - 1776cc DP

With my deadline to complete this restoration just up ahead, I hope this wiring problem does not turn into a nightmare. _________________ 1966 Riviera camper Bus

I have to ask the obvious question; you do have the key on while testing for brake lights, right? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Also, sometimes (happened to me) the pressure switches just get a little jammed. I pressed in my brakes really good a few times and ended up getting my brake lights back. Just something easy to try if you find you aren't getting power out from your switches. Good luck with your electrical investigations. _________________ Brutis Patches Izabich: 1970 VW Transporter - 1776cc DP
