I'm building mine to be driven daily if I wanted to and would, but I have a company car.... So it will be my after work/weekend toy...
Just wondered how often and how many miles do you normally drive a year..... I'm hoping for 5k-8k/year..... If not I will feel my restoration wasn't worth it..... |

When mine's finished I'd love to drive it whenever I can but like you I have a car for work. In reality I have found I use a second car in the past about 2-3000 miles a year. So that's why I usually get limited mileage insurance for 3-5k miles a year. _________________ 1969 UK Karmann Ghia build http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=518789&highlight= |

I've logged about 6K miles in the approx 2 yrs since I got it running and roadable, so that avg's out to about 3K a yr.
Most of that is during the 3 warm seasons of the yr tho.
I really need to get to work on the bodywork and interior but I still don't want to take it off the road just yet

I reset the odometer to 0 when rebuilt the speedo. I started driving it in May of 2006. As of today I have 7200 miles on her. I hope to get out today for the first time since October _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

Mine will be my DD until I buy my retirement house. Then it will come apart for a full resto.......or maybe I'll just drive it till I'm gone. _________________ Chuck in Socal

I just got my 71 out of 'mothball' a week ago and have driven it about 100 miles since then. I don't drive it in winter - I eliminated the heaters - but I have AC for when it gets hot around here. I'll probably drive it Monday for a round of golf with a buddy and his wife. Round trip will be about 50 miles. I don't plan to put many miles on it but I do plan on driving it frequently. Mainly to and from the golf course - 6 miles one way.
I have collector plates on it - supposed to be for going to and from car events but the local cops and deputy sheriffs don't even look twice at it except to give a thumbs up once in a while.
I'll probably put 1000-1500 miles on it per year. I have to divvy up my time between the Ghia and a 'scooter' - a 650cc Suzuki Burgman that I find is a great ride for an old fart. And I've got a backup that needs attention at times too - a 400cc Yamaha Majesty. Too many toys! The Jetta won't see many miles after it warms up a bit more. _________________ 71 Ghia Coupe - stock body - no rust! Powered by a 2110 W/Dual HPMX 44's - Rancho Pro Street Transaxle - A/C by Gilmore

My beetle daily driver currently does roughly 140 miles a week (not a huge amount)... so once my ghias done it'll do a small chunk of that, but I plan to use it for longer trips and my aim to do one interstate vw related trip per year! _________________ 1960 Beetle ''Heidi" daily driver

Almost every day. But I work from home so I don't have to drive anywhere if I don't need to. Still do about 3,000 miles a year on it. _________________ Currently own:

I have owned my Ghia since new (74) and I drove it every day until about 1985, then I 'retired' her to just fun. Still drive her once a week or so. Now have about 102K miles on her. _________________ Pat Daily

Because I walk 1/4 mile to work everyday I drive it maybe 1500 miles a year. I take it to the track and drag race it 5-6 times a year. Best pass in new 2276 is 13.76 @ 963 MPH. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

I would love to DD my Ghia but I have 2 little kids that I take to day care everyday. I drive the Ghia as much as I can, running short errands here and there, which averages to about 10 miles a week. _________________ 69 karmann ghia |

I roughly put in about 17-20k a year on my Ghia and that's nights and weekends and many long distance driving to car shows.
