Was going to tackle replacing the seals in the caliper today, but the kit did not come with the adjuster seals. Gonna have to talk with the parts guy.
Guess I'll spend some time on my motor. _________________ 74 1303 (RevBug): plan for German Look

the latest and greatest: (though some may not agree
managed to source the full caliper rebuild kits through amazon - local parts guy said he couldn't get them through ATE, though the kit I got through Amazon was an ATE kit - - brakes braking well.
after futzing around with the FI for longer than my expertise would permit,- chasing down intake leaks, never could get it to idle right unless it was just richer than snot - I bit the bullet and got set of 44s for it.
In process of pulling the FI off, i more closely examined the plenum, and sure enough there is a crack "well HERE's your problem"
how to rehab/referb a cracked plenum?
and while the FI is off, I'll rewire the harness with new injector connectors, get it all spick and span clean, and will one day re-install and have the 44s for another project.
Also, I've managed to pick up another 2.0 porsche motor (yes, 3 bolt heads) downside is one of the heads dropped a seat - but will pull that apart, clean it out, redo all bearings, re-cam it, port the heads - - and have it ready to run.
Also, I've had a 914 1.7 donated in, along with a mated transmission - - So, I'll that as a project somewhere down the line.
I have one more replumbing job to do - the replacement fuel pump was not a simple remove and replace - I did that and the inlet hose to the pump kinked, causing motor to sputter and die - - imagine that. - re-work on that and wife will be driving tomorrow. - with a big ole smile _________________ 74 1303 (RevBug): plan for German Look

Looking longer term, hoping to refer the fuel injection system, what would be the possible and/or preferred methods of repairing a crack in the fuel injection plenum?
Also, discovered that the nut securing the manifold to head @ #3, was not simply coming loose, it was in fact pulling through. Pulled intake off, retapped and installed heilicoil, and feels much more secure. _________________ 74 1303 (RevBug): plan for German Look

Typically you can just have the crack welded with a bead and then grind it smooth and paint it.
Also.....I dont use helicoil inserts for anything in aluminum. Hardened aluminum knly on stationary machines that does not see heat cycling. The helicoil is a really weak thread system. Be carful with it in a head. Just a few foot lbs of excess torque will multiply with heat expansion.....and they are notorious for shearing the thread lands in tje aluminum because the coil can expand and change shape.
I use solid wall inserts only like EZLok. Ray |

Thanks, Ray.
While the FI is all out, going to tank everything, run wires for a new harness with new injector connections,
And w'll do whatever else I can while I'm in there. Who knows, may have a new motor to go in, too. _________________ 74 1303 (RevBug): plan for German Look

And so it begins- 2.0l is running fine, but. . . . . . Bigger is better, right?
Gonna be a 2260 (2258?) 96 x78 DRD's kit-
New Forged 4340 Type 4, 78mm crankshaft, dynamic balanced by DRD and inspected by DRD.
*1 set of 4 ,Keith Black, 96mm Stoker pistons, with ring kit, and 22mm pistons pins, clips.
*1 set of 4 DRD 96mm Cast iron cylinders, Heat treated and nirtadied, better quality than stock OEM cylinder.
*1 Set of 4 DRD H Beam 5.352 Rods,22mm pin, ARP2000 bolts, Balanced by DRD
*1set of Silver Line steel backed Type 4 main bearings.
*1 Set of rod bearings.
This kit will drop in a type 4 case with no clearencing. Cylinder shims will be required to set the deck height, cylinder shims are not included with this kit.
Case is getting de-Gunked.
Before
After but still more to go.

Got case 1\2s cleaned up better. Not perfect, but. . . Better.
Fit bearings in case. No problem.
Fit crank in cinched in up slowly, checking for bindage. All rotates like butter.
Will pull apart, fit the cam next. Gonna be together/apart lots in the journey.
Question. Will there be O-rings between the case 1/2s? I don't recall seeing them in the gasket kit.
Thanks

hope those two stripes are a decal and not an air brush. If an air brush they need to be hung on the wall as art rather than being subject to rock chips from the highway!!!! |

It'll possible kill you that this is her daily driver, too.
I'll relay the compliment to KingHat Pinstriping. He does great work here in the Rogue Valley (and beyond). _________________ 74 1303 (RevBug): plan for German Look

Updates from past month and a half.
Still have some touch up, cut/buffing to do, plus the rear spoiler will be painted after Xmas.
But, RevWife made the maiden voyage, and got the appropriate reaction from those who saw.
Very happy camper this Xmas. _________________ 74 1303 (RevBug): plan for German Look

I’m? Unintentional. They’re the ones that came on the car when we got it.
Never thought anything of it. Now I’ll have to check out what 76 would look like.
