I was planning on running my wires threw my frame but I had a couple guys say that's a bad idea and will weaken the frame. What's your opinion? If not threw the frame what do y'all recomend on how to keep the wires neat and clean. My previous rail I zip tied them and it was a cluster and had sharp edges for the kids.

Thx

You drill a hole in the tube, water WILL get in. That's ok if you are sure you primed and painted the entire inside of the tubes. Did you? Use the inexpensive split looms and zip tie at 6" intervals.

My preferred method it to run wires in corrugated split tube and the use zip ties (plastic wire ties) to secure split tube to frame....
Braided sleeving works well too....

Ever place you drill frame tubing is a point where you can induce cracking and weakening of frame, a place where water can get in, and there is no access to wires inside frame if you need to do some repair or modifications later.....

IF you do not want razor sharp ends on cut zip ties get a pair of flush cut wire cutters and be sure blades are down close to "knot" when making cut... Verify there is no sharp end by testing with finger, if there is a sharp end your technique needs improvement... Its not the zip ties fault its sharp, its the person doing the cutting and the tools he uses.......

Do not mistake these for standard diagonal wire cutters....

The bigger the hole, the more structure is compromised....

a hole is a "stress riser." stress concentrates there.

hey brooks,
I had the same thing with my rail, I ended up using a 3/4dia plastic or abs pipe thru the passenger compartment. I ran all of my wires thru and then clamped it to a frame tube. i painted it the same as the chassis and nobody knows the difference, and its plastic so nothing will short out.
I got the idea from the race car guys that have to run a fuel line from fuel cell to engine.
