I am wanting/going to paint my 70 Ghia Coupe the Silver Metallic 5706 from the late 50's 356 Coupe. My paint guy is having trouble pulling up the mixing codes. He is going to be contacting PPG directly tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone knows of a modern paint code for Porsche Silver Metallic 5706?

And for you 356 Owners, simply beautiful cars... lucky you... One day i'll have one and hopefully real not have to settle for rep...

You are correct the old paint formulas do not apply today. See the attaced as he confirms.

Glasurit were a main supplier to Porsche for the 356 and I guess for the silver metallic 5706 ( Porsche number ) used 1957 -59.
The www.stoddard.com hard copy book I have states they can give information on the paint code or formula if you call them. Maybe Glasurit will supply the paint to the modern mix. I know my Meissen blue car paint can vary in hue from one supplier to the other! If the complete car is being painted though I reckon you would not see much of a difference though.

I would phone Stoddards or Glasurit to be sure.

Mercedes Benz Astral Silver is a popular alternative to the Reutter 608 (Porsche 5706, 6006, 6206) silver metallic that restoration shops use, as current mixing codes are readily available.

Jan,
I have a 1964 coupe with the as-ordered 6206 silver metallic paint and I have heard from a few sources that the Mercedes silver is an almost perfect match.

You can have Willhoit send you a spray out sample card for $35 and have your painter scan it. http://www.willhoitautorestoration.com/paintsamples.php

You can also go to http://color-online.glasurit.com/CCC/?language=8 and get the formula for 5706 in Glasurit paints. I doubt that it will help if your painter uses PPG but it may be a good starting point.
