Anybody used CV grease? |
YES, I've used that myself for years! I eventually did buy me a tube of Bosch grease, but I never once had any issues using moly CV joint grease there. |

Resurrecting this old thread for the following:
1 Bosch dist grease is NLA
2 Mallory dist grease seems NLA as well
3 Seems that a lot of retailers are pushing dielectric grease as distributor cam grease and I'm not so sure about that.
4 Haven't yet run across any "distributor cam" grease
Being a young buck (late 20s) myself, I -of course- have limited experiences with distributors, points, carbs, etc. Likewise, I don't have any distributor grease
Anyways, discovered NAPA still has their own brand grease which they claim is for distributor cams. Maybe it's just some generic grease, but I figured it's worth a shot.

Anybody has thoughts about this grease(or options you have switched to or found), give a shout. I'm not sure that my dad has any distributor grease from our his wrenching days either so I'm gonna need something for my dear Bug. _________________ 1973 Standard Beetle

Since I couldn't find my distributor grease, last spring when I had the cap off the distributor I put in a dab of brake grease to see how that might hold up. This stuff is very sticky and claims to not harm rubber or metal. (I hope plastic too) No issues so far. I guess I'll know how it holds up in the spring when I do the annual clean up, tune up and inspection. Those points are already at least a couple of years old.
(note to self: get more distributor grease) _________________ Brian
