I had to drag the front clip out yesterday to get some measurements for another bus I'm building and thought while its out I would seal up the gunshot holes and repair the dash where the slug ripped through it!

Managed to squeeze a few hours in and get the toolbox/chassis stripped to see what was salvageable.

I decided to make a new lower toolbox section instead of repairing the old one as I want it to look mint underneath.

Been a while since my last post and I've been putting every hour available into building this bus.

So the first big job was to build the new chassis using panels from Autocraft, klassic fab and the main rails that I made myself.

And also repair the toolbox section.

The original roof on the bus was completely shot so a donor roof was sourced by the previous owner but it was from a later split so needed to be modified to look like the barndoor style roof.

All that could be saved from the old roof was the small section with the crease in at the front so nice to put a bit of og metal back in even if its minimal.

I then sanded the paint back, greased the rusty areas and red oxide primed then painted it in a brown topcoat that I matched to part of the bus.

Yes Scotty, been putting in the hours as I need it fully welded and painted before Christmas!
Very pleased with progress so far but no doubt I'll hit some stumbling blocks soon!

Next the rear section was placed onto the chassis followed by the roof.

No rush for those parts at all Rob Laughing Laughing Although Hessisch will come round pretty sharpish so no blaming me Smile

So with all the big chunks placed precariously onto the chassis I squared it all up and started fitting panels and welding where possible.

There were loads of other little jobs in between all of this but I genuinely don't have time to photograph it all as every minute of spare time is going into the bus.
So this is one of the most recent pictures with it looking solid as a rock.

Next job is to get the old girl on the rotisserie and do all the little jobs which look endless when you get up close!! Oh and repair all the knackerd doors Shocked

Shocked

Simply amazing work here. I love seeing these dead buses brought back to life. What's the plan? A full media blast and repaint or a patina'd bus?

Thanks! All the exterior will be left as it is apart from the bullet holes as nobody wants a leaky bus Smile The underside will be detailed and the inside painted and clean apart from the cab area as it looks pretty cool as it is.

Gotcha. What do you use to stop the surface rust from continuing to eat into the metal on the exterior?
