Bullet holes and doors!! :2gunfire:

We managed to get all the doors stripped and repaired also weld up all the bullet holes Very Happy I've left the shot steel dented in instead of planishing them flat as I like the battered war torn look this bus has.

Simply amazing work here. I love seeing these dead buses brought back to life. What's the plan? A full media blast and repaint or a patina'd bus?

Thanks! All the exterior will be left as it is apart from the bullet holes as nobody wants a leaky bus Smile The underside will be detailed and the inside painted and clean apart from the cab area as it looks pretty cool as it is.

I kinda know what you mean when you want to weld shut the bullet holes. I have been running a while with my 54 with bullet holes. The leaky bit is actually not the bad part. The worst thing is that I end up with exhaust fumes in the bus but I have all my shot wounds in the back. This bus looks like it has got its share of a lot of different gun fire. Bullet and buck shots... Poor fellow but you have done great work on it Shocked
Soon on the road again I guess...

I've been busy working on customers vehicles but still devoting evenings and weekends doing the AGA bus.
Progress has slowed right down but still moving on at a steady rate Very Happy

So with the bus on the rotisserie I did the last little welding and grinding jobs then treated any rust areas with rust converter

Then primed in zinc etch all areas that will be painted

The cargo area will be painted as it consisted of rust and new panels and I want the inside clean.

With all the areas primed it was then time for the brain numbing task of sealing all the joints.

Once this had cured the underside was fully coated in stonechip

And again left to cure before the final paint was applied.
I decided to go for the factory primed look and painted it in satin grey the same shade I painted the Quality sound deluxe and the Tocksfors panel van.

The bus came with a dove blue dash pod so this needed priming and rusting up to match the rest of the cab.

I managed to get hold of a early splitbus beam from Rick at Alan H Schofield and decided to make it look like a barndoor beam so to be in keeping with the bus but with the benefits of center steering and the fact that all the parts are easily accessible here in the UK.

Once I was happy with how the beam fitted I rebuilt the king and link pins, painted everything, fitted new brakes and wheel bearings and put it all back together.

The next time I do this I'd buy a new beam as this took ages although there,s far more satisfaction just using what you have at the time and making it work!

Here's the most up to date photos, I've started blending the paint and I'm happy with how it looks for now. A couple of areas need some more attention but the main goal is to get the old girl back on the road then I can play with the paint some more.

I'm thinking of waxing the paint and rust to protect it as clearcoat gives a plastic looking sheen.
If anyone has any better methods of protection please let me know.
Cheers
Jeff.

Anchor wax or Linseed oil should work well for protection
