|
|
Does anyone have an easy trick for removing the 2 transmission c-clips on my '66 bug? I've tried filing down some needle nose pliers but they just didn't grab and hold on like I need. Trying to avoid going out and buying a specific tool just for this. Thanks

The long curved needle nose worked easier than the straight for me. File a groove on each side that grips the snap ring at the tip. The groove will bite the pinch holes on the ring and won't slide off. |

LOTS of patience. I used long needle nose pliers. After about 30 minutes of continuous work, it popped out _________________ 1965 Herbie Replica. 1776cc dual Kads.

Buy the right tool and be done with it. Sooner or later you are just going to need it again.
Just make sure the tips are the correct size for the hole in the clip.... _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

I ended up purchasing Knipex 4411j3 pliers and expected to use them for other circlips. FYI They are too large for the brake pedal circlip. _________________ View my 66 build thread here: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=507996 |

Thanks all. I'll probably just end up going and buying a pair of snap ring pliers... _________________ .
