Got some 195/55-16 tires mounted to my rims. I pre-adjusted the front end and it all looks very promising now. I had to reduce the travel of the steering rack by turning a thick washer from tool steel. It sits between the counter nut and the tie rod rack ends.
The rear isn`t as simple. In hindsight I am not sure, if it was clever to use the narrowed rear trailing arms with the tires I am using. I choose ET 42 to be able to drive the different 17 inch wheels that are on the market also and (more important) to get good suspension geometry in the front.
However, I had to space the hubs so far outboard again, to make the tires not rub, that I am back to where an original width IRS trailing arm would have been. At least per my calculations I am not so happy with it and will have to see with the body on, if my calculations are maybe off or if I really wasted all this effort using narrow arms. _________________ Stealth Ghia Transformation: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=7226044&highlight=#7226044

Good work Lars, I like that tool to adjust the rear suspension.
Bummer about the rear wheel offset, I hope it works out.
For the stops on the steering rack, I made mine out of Delrin to avoid the metallic clack when you hit the stops, might be something to think about on a street car.
On the other hand I don't know whether my Delrin ones will last? so maybe steel is better?
anyway keep posting for us to enjoy |

I really like those wheels
I made a simillar set for my bug some years ago but I had some difficulties in finding suitable barrels for the OG 16" centers. I finally took 6,5" from Chrysler with 175/50 for the fronts and a 7" Repro with 195/55 for the rears.
Which barrels have been used for those?

The fronts were 6,5 x 16 - ET35 and the rears 7,0 x 16 ET 25.
I first wanted to add some more ET but it was not possible with the barrels. Too close for the welding. ET35 was the maximum. In my mind 16" is the perfect size - 17" sometimes appears a little too big in the front.
I think yours are perfect for the Ghia. |

Yes I have welded mine by myself but I CNC machined them for better balancing.
So basically the centers have been milled according to the area direct below the horn. The Result was quite good. Those wheels almost needed 10-25g per side.

What is with the cylinder heads? They almost like like 356/912 heads. What features does the design incorporate? _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

These are CNC billet heads for oxyboxer with 100mm and larger bore. Plenty of cooling surface. They use S/F manifolds and Type 1 exhaust. Dual spark plugs are standard and I choose 48x39 valves. Mine flow about 240 cfm, probably more possible, but mine are rather ported for good low and mid range . Made by TP-Technologie in Germany. _________________ Stealth Ghia Transformation: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=7226044&highlight=#7226044
