Old body transport with newer rolling frame

I like to pick up a 65' Karmann Gia Coupe Type 14 body without floor plate.
It is a 4 hour trip and we go with a car trailer.

We have a rolling frame, but that was made for a 69' Ghia convertible.
We would like to put the 65' Coupe on the massive built rolling frame.

There is a difference between the bodys with the srew points.
As wee see, the 65' screw points (2) in the back wheel arch are a bit deeper.
Only a bit deeper, but same alignment?

- Do you know, how mouch it is? Something around 2cm i guess...

- Are the front screw points idetical?

What about just add 2 distance pieces to the front screw points, same dimension as the difference in the back.

Would be nice, to get the body direct on the rolling frame. Better than transport it on wooden beams.

Hi, Olli. I understand your plan, and it'll work. The rear body mount can be cut a few cm up from the bottom bolt surface so that the body can fit along the chassis. Like this (JackVW1959) although this mount was cut quite high.

Then you can bolt the body onto the chassis along the chassis edge bolts, skipping every 2nd or even every 3rd bolt.

Instead of cutting the rear body mount, you can install an M10 x 1.5mm bolt into the mount so that it fastens to the chassis- they do align. Then place a ca. 2 cm thick wood board along the front of the chassis edge, in the transverse section that goes under the "Napolean's hat", or along the "dogleg" on the outer edges. Drill the wood for a few bolt holes and use longer M8 x 1.0 mm bolts to reach through from underneath, through the holes in the wood, and into the body. Again, only a few holes along the chassis will be needed to snug the body down.

My description "rolling frame" was ab bit misunderstanding.
What we made for the convertible was that rolling frame:

But with your descriptions i understand, that will work.
With the older housing it will stay a little higher in the back, may be 2cm.
Before srewing in the front, i will add some distance pieces, just for the angles of the srewed parts.
And today we will pick up the Coupe. It is a housing from dry Arizona. Just prepairing the food for the trip

Hi Olli, great, another KG with KTL treatment

How was your experience with CarBlast? I will have mine dipped and KTL treated as well, just do not know where. I had my steel rims done at CarBlast and was quite happy, but they told me that they send every car body throught their pyrolysis oven and that may melt the solder on our Ghias. This scared me away from them.

Please keep posting pictures from your restauration.

Olli, the reason I asked about your location in Germany is that I lived in Wolfsburg for 3 years (working for VW) and also have been to Munich many times on business since the late 1980's. But in my WOB time I never drove to Wuppertal.
