|
|
Hi,
When I purchased my BD, it came with a gearbox, the part number 113.301 101 B Does 113 mean it was a beetle gearbox?
It has the number 2A.... I can get the rest later.
As I understand that there are two gearbox types, the early vertically split case boxes used on the 'crash' and early 1200 vans to the early 50s.
There seems to be NO web-based resource for identifying stock split gearboxes. I find this hard to believe, but I can't find anything, just the beetle box lists.
Thanks for any help.

your post in the UK indicates a 1958 manufacture? this would make this not a barndoor bus.

Barndoor production ended in 55. you might want to repost in the regular split to 67 forum for more exposure _________________ regards

That's really helpful, Thank you EverettB. I wasn't aware that the 2A relates to split screen. If it was beetle does it start with A, if that's incorrect, do you know the start code for a beetle?
2A1593584 is not my serial number, I'm off around to my unit tonight, so I will get my serial code. Is there somewhere I can check online?
Thanks

The number is 2A2062018, code on the top is 323977 and the nose cone number is 211.301.211.
Thanks

59, that's what I thought.
The number is located on the top of the gearbox.

|
|
Could somebody help here please.
I've been offered 4 complete Barn door gearboxes and reduction hubs, but lacking the nose cones, where previous owners have gone the IRS route.
Did early type 2's have non synchro gearboxes, and if so, up until what gearbox/chassis number, or date please?
I could use non synchro boxes on my pre Oct 52 Beetles, and am already using the reduction hubs and drive shafts off one for my 43 Kubel.
Thanks for any help. |

according to the details section on Tonnys site (barndoor.dk) they started the synchro trans in early 53 with
Quote: |
... synchromesh transmission. At this type only the
1. gear was unsynchronised. It is how it looked from ch. number 20-047017
|
for reference my July53 Single cab 20-57... has a 20-476.. (synchro)transmission, so obviously the transmission numbers are off the chassis numbers ! _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

Hi Martin,
Did you buy the barn door gearboxes/axles? Would you like to sell one?
I'm restoring a 44 kubel and looking for a good pair of axles but I'd be interested in a complete gearbox/axle assembly if ones available.
Regards

I have a trasmission that was in my 57 euro deluxe with the number 2A-149400 So this appears to be from a 53?
I'd very much like to get one closer to December 1956 when my bus was made.
Anyone want to trade ?
Please PM me if you do. |

This is what I have. I'm not sure what you mean by smooth case.

I agree that is a '53 transmission.
I guess they used what they had on hand since the reduction boxes and nose cone are later pieces.
The earlier transmission casings have less cross-ribbing.
Here's my later NOS case:
A side by side comparison would be better but I no longer have the early '54 transmission pictured above. _________________ How to Post Photos

While taking pictures I found a factory rebuilt stamp and the KD 260937 so that probably explains the later nosecone and RGB. |
