Hello, this came up for sale in the classifieds and happens to be here in Florida.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1642079

I have no affiliation with the seller but did email him to ask if he could link me to more information about the carriage. The email back was sort of not too helpful. When I google search it, the links seem to point back to his add. Can someone provide me with more information on this coach builder?

My wife thinks it is ugly. It appears to have a fiberglass shell and may be less prone to wood rot vs the gipsy with a wood frame and an aluminum skin. It might be worth a day trip, but I'd like to know more about the construction etc. Could be a good candidate for a TDI and a syncro drive train. I haven't started any cutting yet on my next project. Thank you. mark

My two cents? I don't think that it would be useful as a syncro. Anything I want a syncro for I don't want that body for.

Ya added traction is great, but when I want syncro bits I wouldn't take that chassis there.

I like it. I would vote TDI and no Syncro. Very cool ride.

I got some info right here in my thread.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=535956&start=40

I did contact the seller. I asked him to provide me more pictures when it arrives in the US so i could add it up in my thread for future references.

A couple weeks ago I bought a 1989 vw karmann gipsy. I will make a thread about it soon.

Hi Paul, thanks for your response. Have a good vacation and we will wait for your input when you'll get back... (Photos! Photos! Photos!)

Here is what I found so far on the web. Unfortunatelly the pictures were removed or deleted... Bummer... But at least you can read about the restoration. On this page (page 2) it says the wood structure was removed/replaced. So that means it is built like a vw vanagon karmann gipsy, a wood frame...

Ok, that information is helpful. Wood frame, no thank you. I have a lot of talents, wood working is not one of them. I was hoping since it appeared to be fiberglass, that the support structure was also done in glass. If it is a wood frame fiberglassed into shell, that is how many fiberglass boats are made. Moisture gets trapped under the glass and rots the wood stringers. The rot is mostly invisible until you try to mount something. Fixing it is even worse.

To Paul the seller, yes you did reply, but admitted you did not know anything about it. I replied back that I would post on the Samba to find out more. I expect this thread probably drove a few more people to your van for sale and provided information you were not able to supply as the seller at this time. You are welcome. I am sure it will sell.

I can think of all sorts of places where 4wd + camper make a ton of sense!

A sandy beach or muddy 2 track road are easy examples. Many of the camp sites in Moab require a drive down a sandy road where 2wd nd a heavy rig would be at risk.

So, did you buy it? I see you have your TDI syncro for sale. Because of the wood frame, I quickly lost interest in this camper. It is neat though.

Buy it?
No, i just bought a karmann gipsy!
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=598791&highlight=

For sure I would take a good look at this Tischer XL65 if I did not buy the gipsy.

The wood frame is not a big deal. Well, its not a big deal anymore for me. After lurking over the karmann gipsy forum,
http://www.karmann-coachbuilts.com
And seeing so many gipsys being restored easily. You literally peel off the outer aluminum sheet metal, replace the rotten wood, or even remake a new wood frame. Then reinstall the aluminum sheets, et voilà! With simple tools, and no need of incredible experience, anybody can tackle that task. And cheap at that! Compared to painting a westy body...

Now, Its a totally different game repainting a westy... Metal welding, prep, prep, prep, sanding, a couple layers of primer, a couple of layers of paint, clear... And you need specialised equipement and a paint boot...

How that thing moves at all is beyond me. I love diesels, but a 1.6 NA is a cruel joke in that rig. A prime candidate for a TDI swap if there ever was one

This is it's second go around on Fleebay. It did not meet the reserve last time. It is certainly unique. They just need to find the right person/family. I'd like to see how they stretched the unibody to move the rear axle back. Still though, it is certainly cool looking. Just not for us.
