What color stain did you use? Do you know what the factory color stain is for birch wood? |

I haven't done any interior work to this bus since I've purchased it. Someone re-did it incorrectly in it's past. I'm going to have to source new birch panels and laminates for the cabinets. I'm not looking forward to it either. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Recently during some conversations with Gary (aerotech), I discovered my German Solex 34-3 should of had a dash pot on it. For some reason, I didn't think they were installed until 1972. The Bentley manual confirmed they were installed on 71' type 1 bus engines with Solex 34-3s. Well, since I'm trying to put everything back on this engine it came with in 71', I needed it too.
When I bought a couple of used German Solex 34-3's a few years ago, I noticed one did have the dashpot bracket mounted on it with a broken dash pot. So, I found those parts and found an NOS dashpot on this site.
I mounted it today and adjusted it to spec. It keeps the throttle from slamming closed for smog purposes and I guess some 34-3 equipped motors could stall if coming off high RPM throttle. Mine engine didn't without the pot on the carb. After driving it with the dashpot installed, I see what it does.

When you have THREE beautiful Volkswagens, the wear is kept to a minimum.
Or at least 33%

I'll get those clamps when I get the good brown distributor cap. Until then, I'll just keep my little hacks to myself.
(Cut the ziptie off the retard hose please, its killing my vibe!)

You know what's killing my OCD self looking at this engine?
* The red color intake manifold boots. I found some new, original black VW logo'd boots but I'll be damned if I'm yanking this engine out anytime soon to change them!
* The wrong Pierburg fuel pump. I can't find the correct one w/a rebuild kit.
* The spark plug wire boots on the distributor cap. I hate them. They don't even look close to the original wire boots.
I know, I know.. I need to get a life... _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

I'll take a stab at your 3 Mark-
* Missing lower pulley cover. I have one, just need to paint it and install.
* Not using the charcoal container since its a 71 engine in a 70' bus. Thus, the cap on the nipple on the 71' oil bath.
* Hum.. IDK what else but there's a reason YOU'RE called Busdaddy!
So basically-

Hahahahaha, I thought that would get a response
You are correct on the pulley cover, I'm also wondering about the upper pulley, looks like a stamped metal one instead of the cast 38A style. And #3 is purely cosmetic, the black paint on the crank puley bolt, but if you install the cover no one will ever see it. Overall that's a pretty short list
Does you bus have the tank vent tube in the pocket behind the gas filler door?, or is it on the firewall up in the top RH corner? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

What? Thats a 71 motor in a 70 bus! Well then I retract my past pleasantries about your motor

Good eye. It's not the 38amp generator. Honestly, it's not even on my radar screen to address right now. If I run across one and all it's hard to find parts for a reasonable price, I'll get it. The generator on it is in like new condition. I want to direct those dollars elsewhere. My OCD isn't THAT bad and what percent of the folks would catch that like you did? I need to start working on the interior cabinets redo and then get my head right to start the body work repaint phase.
I didn't even think about the lower pulley bolt. Damn it!

I'm not 100% sure what you're asking here? Do these pics help?

Not really, the pipe I'm looking for is 6" further to the right in the second pic.
In other words where does the other end of that body colored pipe the black vent spiral is connected to go? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Bill, your air cleaner rubber hose clamp on top of the carb looks like cheap garbage. HOW COULD YOU???
This is fun, can we keep nitpicking?
At least the clamps that I DO have say "VW" on them………
