So ..i like the" look" of a windshield visor
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

But everything I read, says these are BAD for everythng..mpgs..bfg's.. ??g's. etc.

So living here in the " a little snow"zone (enough to break your wipers Rolling Eyes ) N.Cal..I was thinking I miss my visor in the summer and in the winter
...a visor has saved me from snowslides and cats on my windshield
.. and is really nice in the summer heat...its like a ballcap Very Happy .just enough
I see the Euro guys love them....but they are rare here..isn't gas more $$ in Europe Confused
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

In OZ i used to drive one of these

..well similar...plus 4x4.. anyhow the visor and side wind deflectors were supposed to improve aerodynamics(mpg's) and YES the stone guard and Roo bar were absolutely neccessary..If you have 6tonnes of tin on the tray,at 120kph.. brakes are not the best option..on gravel highways Shocked
..Anyhow..what'all (love that contraction) is anyones experience with visors ,pro's and cons...opinions
I'm probably gonna fab one from Aluminum. sheet, any ideas?
...or am I on my own again Rolling Eyes
just askin?...The domestic truck guys are very negative Rolling Eyes

PS my scoop is awesome and works 100%+

I'll be getting a black aluminum one from Australia shortly Smile I can't wait for it to get here, parents are shipping it over when they get there. I'd love to copy it since they are nearly impossible to get here!

I've often eyed up these: http://www2.cip1.com/mobile/Product.aspx?id=14429 and wondered what it'd be like on a vanagon...Would it make my van look like a Vegas poker dealer?

I think the visors do look great, no idea of wind resistance though.

Cool I'm into it. Considering most of the driving I do is in the desert, I'll welcome the shade. I might still do the tint or just tint the whole front windshield.

As far a aerodynamics, I'm not worried about it. And noise? I'm not worried about that either.

We still talking about visors?

This is clearly an eye-of-the-beholder thing -- not something I care for at all but some must like them.

And with a set of curb feeler's you'd have the Mountain William look all locked up tight---

Don't forget the chrome banana for your tail pipe, the two static strips with white lighting bolts printed on them hanging off the rear bumper--get the full meal deal--the entire program & ambiance covered Rolling Eyes

Didn't someone have a set of skirts manufactured for the Vanagon??
Now you'd have it all-- Laughing

Here's an interesting tidbit
Sun visor
The primary function of a sun visor is of course to ensure that the driver does not suffer from glare. Its rounded edges can also have an aerodynamic function, reducing drag on a cab with a sharp horizontal roof edge, by guiding the airflow around it better. Fitting a sun visor yields a fuel saving of 3% for a rigid vehicle, and 1.9% and 2.3% for an articulated vehicle and a drawbar vehicle respectively.

Tip: The minimum radius of rounding of the cab’s horizontal roof edge required to achieve a drag reduction depends on the vehicle’s average speed. As a rule of thumb:

To achieve a drag reduction at all speeds a radius of 150mm is best. This particularly applies to trucks that travel at low average speeds.
A radius of 75mm will suffice to achieve a drag reduction at speeds of 80 kmph and higher. This applies to trucks that travel mainly on motorways.
Ideally the sun visor should be built into the – rounded – horizontal roof edge, as this guarantees minimum airflow disruption while at the same time providing the cab with the rounding required for a continuous airflow around the roof edge.

and here a visor improves air flow Shocked

Mine should be here in September sometime. I'll take some good measurements and photos for you. The company I bought from doesn't ship to the States, so I sent it to my brother in Gladstone QLD and when he moves to a larger city he's going to finally ship it!

I'll see how I like it and if you build one, you'll probably have to build me a couple more Smile
