So with all the reading about lifting a syncro I've been doing it seems that 2" is the average upper extreme. I know that steeper angles on cvs will wear them out sooner but with all new lobros what kind of longevity could I expect? Is a 2" lift when one should have been going with bigger cvs? I have to do something soon as I have some tired suspension parts and am going to be rebuilding soon. I dont plan on too big of tires probably 28".

With 28" tires, I would be looking into 1.5" systems.

Most of the 2" springs that were available are now 1.5s anyway.

The extra .5" isn't worth the added expense, my opinion.

FYI, spacing progressive springs will not "lift" a van, again, my opinion.

I went with the GoWesty 2" progressive springs. I only realized a little over an inch once everything settled in. But that was enough for me to run 27" tires and not rub.

I have not had any ill effects with my CV joints. I did replace all of them with LoBro's and have over 7000 miles on the joints so far.

I did have to add a spring pad on the drivers rear to get rid of the Westy Lean.

New springs and old man Emu's made a big difference in my ride.

Good luck with yours.

Within a year of adding 2" springs I broke a front outer CV turning into a parking space. Normal driving and some light offroading with 15" wheels and Nokian WRC 65s.
I ended up replacing all the front CVs and keeping the worn ones as spares. I should probably repack the rears at least before another big trip!

Did you break a cv because it was an old cv prior to lift? Eventually I plan on a decoupler to ease stress on front cvs.

A decoupler does nothing for CV joints that are angled to the max due to geometry....aka 2" lifts.

Yes. It was original. If your CVs are relatively low mileage I doubt you'd have a problem.

Yeah I understand that. Is 2" considered extreme though? From reading about suspensions settling down a little Im thinking mine would too. The road I live on can give your suspension a workout . As for the decoupler is concerned , yes the cvs are still at a steeper angle but with no torque being applied to them most of the time I dont think one argue that they will last longer.

Depends upon CV brand.
By the sounds of your road, EMPIs would last a month or so.
The extreme angle will destroy boots quickly as well.

930s, 944s and quality Germany stock CVs stand the best chance of surviving extreme angles and yes a 2" lifts will create and extreme angle.

The rears will sag and the fronts not as much.
Many than use spacers to level.
Depending upon the spring this will either lift or compress the spring.

If you truly need the extreme height and angles, upgrading your front outer Syncro CV is advised and very expensive.

Right. All are lobros. I learned about empi back in my bay window days. Half way through a suby swap new trans crusty syncro restoration my wallet hardly feels the pain anymore ha ha ha. In balls deep and cant stop now. I'll look at 1 1/2" springs though. Even though I only plan on running 28" tires I think I will stretch my fender arches.
